Day Fitter
Job Summary
As a Day Fitter at Arriva Merseyside Limited, you will be responsible for carrying out routine maintenance, inspections, MOT and repairs on our fleet of buses, ensuring their safety, reliability, and operational efficiency throughout the day.
Job Responsibilities
* Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, including vehicle inspections and MOT prep in accordance with company standards and legal requirements.
* Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults on a variety of bus types using diagnostic equipment and technical manuals.
* Conduct repairs and replacements of components such as engines, gearboxes, brakes, suspension systems, and electrical wiring.
* Complete all necessary documentation, including job cards, defect reports, and service sheets, accurately and in a timely manner.
* Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, company policies, and environmental procedures.
* Work collaboratively with other maintenance staff and operational teams to minimise vehicle downtime and ensure fleet availability.
* Participate in ongoing training and development to keep up-to-date with new technologies and maintenance practices.
* Maintain a clean and organised workshop environment.
Job Qualifications
* Recognised qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
* Proven experience as a heavy vehicle fitter, preferably within a bus or coach operating environment.
* Strong diagnostic skills for identifying and rectifying a wide range of mechanical and electrical faults.
* Proficiency in using workshop tools, equipment, and diagnostic software.
* A full UK Driving Licence is essential; a PCV (Category D) licence is highly desirable.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
