The Data Engineer works closely with the various project teams to design, build, and optimize scalable data models and analytical datasets that enables business intelligence, reporting, and advanced analytics.
He/She is responsible for solving business problems through applying analytics tools and skills; curating and integrating data sets; developing data models and algorithms that make data more useful to the enterprise.
He/She also interfaces with IT to identify the right data sources for data acquisition and curation of data sets. This requires deep knowledge of database design, data integration tools and methods, analytical and digital programming languages.
Location: Pune
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field or related years of successful work experience
Licenses/ Certifications: Snowflake certification
AWS or Azure Cloud Engineer nice to have
Microsoft Professional Certification nice to have
Strong proficiency in SQL
Experience with data modeling
Hands-on experience with data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, Azure Synapse, etc.)
Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines (dbt, Azure Data Factory, etc.)
Experience working with BI tools (Power BI)
Understanding of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
Python for data transformation (preferred)
Familiarity with version control (Git)
Knowledge of performance optimization techniques
Agile methodologies
Competences:
Design and maintain scalable data models (star/snowflake schemas)
Build curated analytical datasets for reporting and dashboards
Develop complex SQL transformations and business logic
Optimize datasets for performance and usability
Partner with business stakeholders to translate requirements into data models
Support BI developers and analysts with robust semantic layers
Implement data access controls (row-level/column-level security)
Maintain metadata and lineage documentation
Ensure compliance with data governance policies
Document data definitions and transformation logic
Must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products.
Excellent communication skills enabling him/her to convey technical messages to collaborative non-technical departments and personnel, leading to a positive outcome and the overall improvement in business performance.
Able to translate technical speak into business speak and vice versa, rationalize technical decisions to business.
