Motional’s Las Vegas office is located less than 10 miles from the Las Vegas strip at 730 E Pilot Road and is home to one of the largest fleets of self-driving vehicles. The city’s grid system of roads and being one of America’s “smart cities” allows for extensive research and development testing.

Mission Summary:

The Data Collection Coordinator is the critical link between high-level autonomy requirements and daily field execution. This role acts as a primary lead for manual driving vehicle operators, ensuring that all safety protocols, personnel management, and vehicle allocations align with departmental goals. In addition to supervision of the vehicle operators, the Coordinator owns data collection in our Las Vegas office —partnering with engineering to translate data requests into actionable roadmaps, optimizing collection routes for environmental diversity, and ensuring high quality of feature density in every mission.

What you'll be doing:
  • Oversee the daily performance of a manual driving vehicle operator workforce (10+), managing time-off requests, attendance, and adherence to company policies.
  • Conduct bi-weekly reviews and annual performance evaluations; provide targeted job coaching and constructive feedback to address performance deficiencies.
  • Monitor daily shift execution of safety protocols and review in-vehicle dash camera footage to ensure compliance with Safety department standards.
  • Schedule vehicle operators and assign vehicles/software bundles in coordination with Fleet Coordinators and Managers.
  • Create Jira for discrepancies and safety concerns prior to scheduling and ingest/review logs
  • Lead daily briefings to update assignments for the contractor workforce and conduct debriefs to solicit feedback on route and mission success.
  • Facilitate basic AV system troubleshooting and Quick Action Reporting in partnership with Fleet Supervisors and Vehicle Integration Engineers.
  • Partner with engineering teams to optimize collection routes, maximizing feature density and environmental diversity for high-efficiency data collections.
  • Adjust mission plans based on field feedback, utilizing Jira to assign updated mission details and ensure data requests are fulfilled despite changing circumstances.
  • Define and monitor data collection metrics against contract standards and lead the execution of quarterly data collection roadmaps (including hour targets and collection focus).
  • Develop and maintain SOPs and briefing documents to standardize data collection techniques across the operator team.  Audit driver performance and provide coaching to ensure mission alignment.

Additional requirements:
  • Proven supervisory or leadership experience, specifically managing teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule; on-call during off shifts for escalations and coordination, handoffs to peers
  • Solid understanding of data collection, operations and experience in automotive or fleet operations.
  • Proficiency with Jira, Microsoft Office and G-Suite for task management and mission adjustment.
  • Ability to provide feedback to engineering and professional coaching to vehicle operator teams.

Bonus points (not required):
  • Basic working-knowledge of Autonomous Vehicle technology
  • Experience with NHTSA Levels 2-5 Autonomous Vehicles preferred
  • Can ride a skateboard or other unique personal vehicle

Physical demands:
  • Requires near/far/depth vision to safely operate testing vehicles and see computer screens
  • Able to be in confined seated position to operate vehicle for up to four (4) hours at a time for a total of up to ten (10) hours per day
  • Able to be to be a driver and a passenger in a testing vehicle
  • Able to operate grip gear shift, brake release and steering wheel requiring coupling forces up to ten (10) lbs.
  • Reach to either left or right shoulder to pull seat belt across body
  • Walking around the vehicle at beginning and end of shift for inspection of vehicle.
  • Will also inspect underneath of vehicle for leaks or damage
  • Able to remain alert on shift at all times
  • Able to perform actions that pedestrians or authority figures regularly perform on or near public roads like walking, running, gesturing, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, road conditions and pedestrian traffic. The team member is regularly exposed to mechanical and computer parts. The team member is occasionally exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles. Safety requirements:

To maintain a safe operating environment at Motional, our safety critical positions must undergo an initial drug screening and are subject to random drug screen testing during employment.

 This role is based in our Las Vegas office and requires in-office days each week.

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors including but not limited to specific skills, experience and expertise, role location, certifications, licenses, and business needs. $98,000$129,500 USD
