General Purpose of Job

Under direction, facilitates data transformation in support of analytic/ad hoc business intelligence efforts for the Health System and performs other related work as required.

Through the development of analytical tools that review operational volumes, expenses, service utilization, quality metrics, market share and profitability, the Data Architect will facilitate data models, data visualization tools and other analytical resources to allow the analytics department to provide information employed in strategic planning and initiative tracking. Data Architects will follow proper procedure to validate data, as well as be responsible to educating business analysts and reporting users. The Data Architects will support all focus areas, including but not limited to clinical, operational, health plan, or financial.

Incumbents report to the Data & Analytics Manager which reports to the Director of Analytics; they will support the Hospital (with focus on Financial, Operational and Clinical Areas), Clinics, and Health Plan within the Driscoll Health System (DHS).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities - Positions in this class may perform any or all of the below listed duties. These should be interpreted as examples of the work, and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

  • Designs, implements and maintains data models, data warehouse packages and warehouse development tools such as SQL Data Tools (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS).
  • Develop and maintain Epic’s Caboodle Data warehouse metrics, reports, packages, models.
  • Builds reporting solutions for the analytics departments, assisting Business Intelligence analyst and developers in query tuning, optimization and BI enhancements.
  • Design and develop ETL processes for capturing data from non-Epic data sources for reporting capabilities.
  • Able to maintain a global perspective and see impacts and results beyond the traditional organizational walls (departments, services, geographic location)
  • Reads technical journals, attends seminars and workshops to learn about new developments and changing analytic methodologies; may participate in testing new vendor provided software in a test environment for possible use by the hospital.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work with both internal and external data sources, transforming data into information and provide insights along with recommendations
  • Performs other related work as required.

Education and/or Experience - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

  • Master's Degree in the fields such as Information Systems, Finance, Statistics, Data Mining and Analytics, Clinical Analytics, or Health Care Administration with Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 3 years of reporting and analytics experience or preferred degree or business experience (nursing, epidemiology, health plan, etc.) and at least one year experience in ETL, data modeling, data warehouse experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of: Principles and practices of data modeling and database design; keeping up with new trends and developments in the field of information systems technology; technical troubleshooting, analysis, and problem solving in an enterprise environment; Windows systems and configurations in support of databases.

Skill in: SSIS, SSAS, SSDT, Oracle, SQL Server, PL/SQL and/or T-SQL procedures, functions, triggers, SQL, and/or other database development tools; Qlik Sense, QlikView, Tableau, PowerBI, SAP Crystal Reports, SSRS, and/or other business intelligence tools.

Ability to: Analyze systems, procedures, data, and draw logical conclusions; design, test and document; utilize vendor provided software; think logically in abstract symbolic terms; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing including providing technical information in non-technical terms; provide instruction and training to end users; maintain detailed and accurate records; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work; Strong organizational skills and ability to successfully manage concurrent assignments. Preferred candidate will have healthcare industry or related experience, prior experience working with an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, knowledge of Clarity/Caboodle data structure for financial and clinical applications.
