THE ROLE 

The Custodial Supervisor is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the Environmental Services department and ensuring work assignments are completed efficiently, safely, and within established timelines and budgets. 

Reporting to the Environmental Services Operations Manager, this role provides leadership and direction to frontline team members while ensuring high standards of cleanliness, safety, and service throughout the facility. The Custodial Supervisor must be a self-starter who works effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization and can successfully adapt to changing priorities and operational demands in a fast-paced convention center environment. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

Operational Leadership 

  • Provide leadership and direction for day-to-day operations of Environmental Services team members to meet the needs of internal and external customers. 

  • Assign and monitor daily work schedules to ensure timely completion of operational tasks. 

  • Ensure productivity, service quality, and safety standards are consistently met. 

  • Coordinate staffing, scheduling, and manpower planning to meet operational demands. 

 

Team Management & Employee Relations 

  • Support absence management, employee discipline, coaching, and performance management activities.  

  • Assist with training, onboarding, and development of Environmental Services staff. 

  • Foster a positive team environment that promotes accountability, teamwork, and morale. 

  • Coordinate with shift counterparts to ensure smooth transitions between shifts. 

 

Operations Coordination 

  • Collaborate with other departmental managers to determine operational needs for customer events. 

  • Manage beginning and end-of-shift reports documenting service delivery, safety issues, equipment concerns, and employee relations matters. 

  • Ensure proper communication and handoff of operational information between shifts. 

 

Inventory & Administrative Duties 

  • Oversee operational supply levels and inventory needs. 

  • Support office management and administrative responsibilities within the department. 

  • Ensure compliance with operational policies and procedures. 

 

Equipment Operation & Safety 

  • Operate self-propelled material handling or mechanical lift equipment as required. 

  • Monitor the safe and effective use of equipment by team members. 

  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety standards and reporting procedures. 

 

Continuous Improvement & Reporting 

  • Observe and analyze departmental operations to identify efficiency improvements. 

  • Report operational findings and recommendations to senior leadership 

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service quality and efficiency. 

 

Other duties as assigned, including special projects. 

KEY DELIVERABLES 

  • Consistent delivery of high-quality environmental services throughout the facility. 

  • Effective supervision and scheduling of Environmental Services staff. 

  • Safe and efficient operations aligned with organizational policies and procedures. 

  • Strong communication and coordination between shifts and departments. 

  • Accurate reporting of operational, safety, and employee-related issues. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred. 

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively responsible housekeeping or environmental services experience; equivalent experience will be considered. 

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred. 

  • Experience working in a unionized environment preferred. 

  • Prior experience working in large hotels and/or convention center operations strongly preferred. 

  • Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with standard office software.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

This position operates onsite in a professional office environment within a live-event facility. The role requires frequent movement throughout the building and active supervision of operational teams. 

Physical requirements may include: 

• Standing and walking for extended periods 
• Bending, lifting, and performing physical tasks as needed 
• Ability to lift and move equipment or materials as required 
• Working flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules
