Credit & Underwriting Specialist

We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Underwriter to join our team. This role is critical in ensuring the completeness and quality of loan packages before they are submitted to our partner bank underwriters for final approval. The Underwriter will primarily focus on reviewing the automated decisioning output and meticulously compiling all necessary documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing Initial Automated Decisioning: Analyzing the output of Lendio's automated decisioning system to validate results and identify any potential discrepancies or areas for further scrutiny.

    • Credit reports (Personal FICO and SBSS)

    • Bank transactions (from aggregators and statement OCR)

    • Business verification (Alloy, LexisNexis, and ITA OFAC) 

  • Supplementary Personal and Business Verification: 

    • Confirming borrower(s) identity

    • Corporate organization

    • Filing status 

    • Licensing (if required) 

  • Document Review and Quality Check: Verifying the completeness and quality of all submitted loan documents.

  • Credit and Financial Analysis Review: Reviewing source data used in the decisioning structuring processes, which includes:

    • Evaluating specific use of loan proceeds and understanding optimal loan structure that fits the client need

    • Validating the calculation of critical financial metrics, including Liquidity Coverage Ratio and Debt Service Coverage Ratio - including review/validation of the initial automated calculations

    • Conduct review of key financial metrics from

      • Debt schedule

      • P&L

      • Balance Sheet

      • Income statement 

      • Tax Returns - Business and Personal

      • Personal Financial Statements

      • [ensure logical connection between documents, stated income and bank statement data] 

  • Credit summary review/ validation: Review the draft credit summary (prepared using an LLM) and then enhance/interpret to ensure that it adequately describes the business, its risks and adequacy for final review by the lender. 

  • Package Preparation: Preparing a comprehensive and accurate loan package for submission to the partner bank underwriter for their formal review.

Qualifications

Required

  • Five (5) years of experience in underwriting, loan processing, or a related financial field.

  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in reviewing and interpreting credit reports and financial statements.

  • Experience calculating key lending metrics (e.g., DSCR, liquidity coverage ratios)

  • Strong knowledge of current SBA SOP, eligibility requirements, and overall industry credit standards

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with SBA loan packaging and requirements.

  • Knowledge of small business credit metrics and risk assessment.

  • Proficiency with various document management and financial software.
