The Opportunity:

As the Contract Specialist 2, you will independently prepare, negotiate, execute, and manage complex contracts for Washington State University (WSU) consistent with applicable statutes and regulations. This position supports all WSU campuses and research stations as necessary, with signature authority for contractual and purchase order commitments.

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

Monthly Salary: $4,882 to $6,576 | Range 53 | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree involving major study in public administration, business administration, business law, commerce, economics, mathematics, statistics or closely allied field AND two (2) years of experience in negotiating, administering or terminating government contracts, contract property management, contract cost or price analyses, or contract compliance administration. A law degree from an accredited college or university approved by the Washington State Bar Association may be substituted for the experience and education. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted, year for year, for the education. A Master’s degree in one of the above academic disciplines may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve and facilitate harmonious working relationships with others.

  • Demonstrated ability to edit, proofread, and redline contractual documents.

  • Experience with computer-based business information systems and experience utilizing spreadsheets, databases, etc., to analyze and present information. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of experience reviewing and redlining contracts at an institution of higher education or similar governmental entity
