Job Description:

Department

Contracts and Settlements is one of several support functions that enable EDF Trading to tightly control its commercial activities and process a large number of transactions with a wide variety of counterparts.

The department acts as an enabler for the commercial side of the business whilst ensuring effective processes and controls are in place to mitigate operational risk and potential loss whether financial (actual or lost opportunity) or reputational.

Position purpose

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our team. The role will be to take ownership and responsibility of the emissions delivery and complex confirmations processes. Ensuring trade confirmations are sent in a timely manner, matched where applicable electronically, followed up regularly to ensure both compliance with the agreed departmental KPIs and most importantly the integrity of the company’s traded position and associated PnL, as well as monitoring emissions positions, actioning delivery and general registry management and maintenance tasks are performed.

Main responsibilities

  • Responsible for drafting and ensuring the timely dispatch of all counterparty confirmations
  • Responsible for receiving and reconciling all counterparty confirmations investigating and resolving discrepancies whilst escalating issues to management as appropriate
  • Responsible for following up outstanding and overdue confirmations to ensure receipt within contractual deadlines.
  • Monitor electronic confirmations for failures and resolve through to successful match.
  • Reconcile broker recaps and investigate any mismatches
  • Analysing and documenting understanding of Structured products. Including but not limited to:
    • Complex Power and Gas transactions
    • Emissions transactions
    • PPA transactions
    • Weather Derivatives
    • LNG / LPG
  • Assisting in the delivery of emissions certificates, as well as the maintenance of the emissions registries across compliance and voluntary markets.
  • Work with Technical partners to ensure infrastructure / confirmation logic issues are resolved.
  • Liaising and interacting with Front Office, Operations and IT teams to investigate and resolve exceptions.
  • Assess confirmation processes for development opportunities.
  • Responsible for contributing to a high performing team.
  • Ensuring all processes are followed and evaluated for enhancements and controls.

Experience required

Analyst: 1-2 years’ experience in applicable role

Experience of working in a confirmations role (ideally in Gas, Power and Emissions markets) is an advantage, and/or a Middle / Back office operations role (ideally in Gas, Power and Emissions markets).

Technical requirements

  • Working knowledge of Operations within Energy Markets.
  • Working knowledge of Operations within Emissions Markets.
  • Knowledge of trade lifecycle processes including: booking, amendment, contracts, and settlements.
  • Knowledge of emissions lifecycle processes including: booking, amendment, contracts, settlements and delivery.
  • Demonstrates analytical skills which can be used in an agile and dynamic working environment
  • Able to follow procedures, identify problems, propose solutions and follow up on resolution.
  • Intermediate or Advanced Excel skills are an advantage.

Person specification

  • Degree level educated or equivalent work experience.
  • Motivated by daily operational processes and the opportunity to develop and refine those processes.
  • Numerate with a strong attention to detail and the ability to deliver high standards of accuracy.
  • A team player who is confident in building strong working relationships at all levels.
  • Proactive and adaptable in a fast paced and exciting environment.
  • Fluent in English with the ability to communicate messages clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, with colleagues including senior management.
  • Self-starter, a quick learner, and someone who has proven problem solving skills and is not afraid of being curious.

Hours of work:

8.30am – 5.30pm / 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
