Job Summary

The Compliance Investigator I, under general supervision, conducts investigations of alleged civil rights discrimination, sexual harassment, and other related retaliation. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Investigates complaints and writes comprehensive investigation reports.

  • Assists with civil rights related training to system members.

  • Coordinates investigations and training with the Office of General Counsel.

  • Assists with and coordinates with other investigations with system member officials.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations in accordance with applicable System policies and University procedures.

  • Act as an impartial party and perform prompt, thorough, and equitable investigations of claims of discrimination (based on a protected class), sexual harassment (which includes sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking), and/or related retaliation, as well as on reports of other workplace complaints.

  • Plan and establish timelines for investigations (identify and interview witnesses, gather and secure relevant documentation, prepare a comprehensive investigation report, etc.).

  • Continuously identify and integrate best practices to ensure quality investigations.

  • Maintain accurate and thorough investigative files, reports, and documentation, as appropriate.

  • Provide regular updates and status reports, as necessary.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education – Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.

  • Experience – Two year of related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, and/or the Americans with Disabilities Act.

  • Trained/certified as an investigator and/or in victim trauma.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

Ability to:

  • Multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organization.

Preferred Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, and/or the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Ability to:

  • Effective investigative examination and interviewing techniques.

  • Listen well and demonstrate sensitivity and respect for others.

  • Use discretion and good judgment in highly sensitive situations.

  • Possess strong organizational and analytical skills.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Effectively work on multiple simultaneous projects and meet deadlines.

  • Work independently.

Licensing / Professional Certification – Certified as an investigator and/or in victim trauma is preferred.

Supervision of Others

This position generally does not supervise employees.

Other Requirements

Salary: $53,352.00/annually
