Intern - Chip Design Verification
Lumentum has an opportunity for a yearlong internship in Chip Design Verification to join our Chip R&D team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to test and perform experimental characterisation and performance investigation of advanced photonic integrated circuits and devices, specifically semiconductor laser, modulator, and receiver devices, to enable the rapid and successful completion of chip NPI programmes. The role is based at our Northamptonshire offices.
JOB ROLE:
The Chip Design Verification Intern will be working on developing world-leading optical components for use in ultra-high data rate systems for AI data centre, 5G mobile, and coherent telecommunication optical fibre networks. You will need to work closely with other members of the verification team, as well as with members of the wider chip R&D team, the product engineering, test, reliability and process architect teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Optical and electrical experimental characterisation of new and improved photonic devices and photonic integrated circuits (PICs), for coherent detection and direct detection systems above 200 Gb/s.
- Development of manual and semi-automated experimental hardware/software for testing photonic III-V semiconductor devices involving a broad range of disciplines – optical/electrical/RF.
- Experimental characterisation of state of the art photonic III-V semiconductor devices, performance investigation; developing new experimental techniques, statistical data analysis; failure mode investigation.
Qualifications:
Working towards or obtained a degree in physics, electronic, electrical engineering or a related discipline (essential).
Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to use scientific and engineering reasoning in a wide range of situations including statistical data analysis
- Specialised knowledge and skills in relevant areas (e.g. semiconductor device physics, testing, electronic design, software development, statistical analysis). (Desirable)
