Northrop Grumman Aeronautics sector is seeking a Chemical Handler 2 or Chemical Handler 3 to join our team in Clearfield, UT.

Performs a variety of tasks in the controlling and monitoring of chemicals within the company facility or manufacturing production organization in accordance with federal, state and local regulations such as EPA Clean Water Act and DOT Toxic Substances Control Act. Monitors chemicals, related equipment, and waste system indicators; makes chemical and equipment adjustments to ensure proper system functioning and chemical solution balance; removes and disposes of waste chemicals, solvents, and acids; inspects hazardous waste production and storage units; and maintains operational logs. Cleans up chemical spills. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Must have a good understanding of chemicals (acids, bases, oxidizers, flammables, reducers, water-reactives) in a variety of forms (liquids, solids, gases, sludges, slurries) and related incompatibilities to prevent undesirable chemical reactions. Work is performed in occasional hazardous working conditions and requires the use of specialized safety equipment and apparatuses.

Job Duties Include:

  • Responsible for the receipt, maintenance of records and inventorying of controlled wastes Operates computer to maintain records dealing with excess property, precious metals, hazardous wastes, and classified scrap. responsible for small emergency chemical spill cleanup

  • Tears down product and assemblies that is designated for destruction with a wide variety of equipment (Disintegrator, Shredder, Hammer mill, hand tools)

  • Issues supplies and containers to operating departments

  • ls responsible for pumping controlled waste to and from tanks

  • Works from written and oral instructions

  • Responsible for Recycling Program

  • Responds to emergency spills in the plant

  • Performs over-packs for waste that is generated in departments

  • Conducts activities in a safe and healthy manner and works in accordance with established HS&E requirements to ensure the protection of employees, the public, and the environment. Takes actions necessary to “stop” work when an unsafe condition or action is identified. Every employee has the right and responsibility to stop work when unsafe conditions or actions are identified

  • May require repacking of waste and prepares it for shipment

  • Load trucks for shipments

  • Works with trash compactor and Break down solid waste for shipment to recycler

  • Works with waste drivers on pick-ups of roll-offs getting in/out weights

  • Performs weekly inspections on waste containers and waste storage areas

  • May perform other duties as required

Qualifications for Chemical Handler Level 2:

  • High school diploma or GED and two years of experience of handling chemical/hazardous waste or similar experience

  • Must be a US citizen

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a  U.S. Government Secret Clearance 

  • Valid Drivers License

  • Able to lift and carry 50 pounds

  • Must be able to bend, squat down, and reach above your head

  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders

  • Ability to work any shift

  • High school diploma or GED and four years of experience of handling chemical/hazardous waste or similar experience

  • Must be a US citizen

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a  U.S. Government Secret Clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $48,400.00 - $80,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $57,500.00 - $95,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
