The purpose of this position is to provide financial guidance to students in person on a range of personal finance topics in support of the goals, growth, and efforts of GCU Money Mentors, a peer-to-peer financial coaching program. We are seeking students who wish to make a lasting impact on their peers' financial well-being, combining astute financial literacy with Christian perspectives, passion, kindness, and interpersonal communication. Qualifications/Education
- Enrolled full-time GCU students in good financial and academic standing in a Bachelor's program
- Possesses and retains a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater, who can commit for a full academic year ending April 20th, 2027, and who have taken FIN-210 or equivalent
- Have passion and willingness to help others succeed; previous mentoring a plus
- Strong interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and financial literacy skills
- Empathetic client service orientation, detailed meeting note-taking skills, and time management
- Familiarity with basic financial literacy tools, MS Office Suite, Canva, Bookings, and other platforms and apps (strength in some areas is welcome)
- Engagement with social media platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, or podcasts is required
Responsibilities
- Student financial wellness coaching on basic personal finance challenges
- Complete initial required training within the prescribed two-week timeframe, and master skills to perform coaching duties effectively during client-facing shifts on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, in 9 AM-12 PM and 12 PM- 4 PM shifts.
- You have the flexibility to work a minimum of 2 hours or a maximum of 7 hours, but no more than 20 hours a week. You can also split your time between the two shifts.
- Solicit and schedule daily (M, W, and F) student coaching sessions for 2-3 student peers during our pilot shifts this semester and 2-5 student peers in the Spring semester, depending on your scheduled working hours.
- Your working schedule should include time for initial training, advanced training workshops, bi-weekly group meetings, office duties, report creation, and outreach events during the semester.
- Actively listen and demonstrate care and empathy during engagements; maintain a professional, composed manner when interacting with all internal and external stakeholders
- Take detailed meeting notes, process engagement forms, and complete and analyze surveys
- Explain financial literacy principles of income management, budgeting, financial goal planning, debt management, credit score improvement, and insurance
- Collaborate professionally with other university departments and leadership while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to FERPA regulations
- Create, disseminate, and track authentic social media and Podcast content and email campaigns with a Christ-centered theme
- Support the program Director with multiple projects, office duties, creating and analyzing program reports, assisting with program promotion and outreach events, time-tracking, and non-profit relations
- Perform other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as required, and provide improvement suggestions
