Brand and Media Project Graduate Assistant

SUMMARY:   

Grand Canyon University’s Brand & Media Project Graduate Assistant assists in overseeing the brand, media(s), and marketing programs that serve the office of Student Engagement within Student Affairs. This goal-oriented position coordinates a team of student workers with a focus on mentorship, creativity, and project management. 

Graduate Assistants can be a 9 month or 12-month role depending on the needs of the business; the department needs to specify the conditions under which the tuition will be covered and the start and anticipated end date of the graduate assistantship. 

The department can specify the administrative responsibilities or projects needed in the job posting. The GA compensation rate is the same for all GA administrative positions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Coordinate photography projects (promo and recap) from intake to delivery
  • Create, manage, and oversee Student Engagement Medias (print and digital)
  • Manage and oversee the Sudent Engagement Brand (guides, approval processes, etc)
  • Manage timelines and task tracking within the project management platform
  • Serve as the main point of contact for media-related project updates and follow-ups
  • Schedule/document meetings, shoots, and content reviews with clients and student workers
  • Assign and oversee tasks for student workers, ensuring quality and timely execution
  • Maintain organized archives of completed photo and media assets
  • Track and report on project progress, timelines, and media-related performance metrics
  • Support project deliverable revisions, approvals, and delivery logistics
  • Make sure of alignment with GCU brand standards in all deliverables and medias
  • Help onboard, train, and develop photography student workers
  • Research and recommend current media trends and tools to improve creative quality
  • Establish, maintain, manage, and meet metrics and goals for medias as directed
  • Assist the Project Manager with operational needs and campus-wide initiatives as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIESThe role will coordinate the management of the student worker photography team.

General Requirements

  • By the start date of position, Graduate Assistant must be enrolled in a graduate program at Grand Canyon University, preferably in marketing, communications, project management, social media, leadership, business, or a related field.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0. (If a student is newly admitted to the University, the admission GPA is considered for this requirement.) A student must also maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 during their employment.
  • Because of the role as student and employee, graduate assistants assume responsibility for upholding the University’s Student Code of Conduct.
  • Graduate Assistants are eligible for waiver of tuition for the period employed. Waiver of tuition may be taxable income.
  • Graduate Assistants must follow the HR employment workflow processes and pre-employment background checks.
  • Graduate Assistants have restricted work hours (maximum of 29 hours per week).
  • After all degree requirements for the planned program of study are met, a student is no longer eligible to receive a graduate assistantship.
  • “Incomplete” grades must be removed during the period following the teaching period in which the “I” was recorded in order to continue the assistantship.
  • Graduate Assistants are part-time employees and not eligible for GCU’s employment benefits, except those stipulated by law.
  •  Assistantships may be revoked at any time duties are not fulfilled satisfactorily.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in leadership roles, creative services, customer service, marketing and social media, photography, or project coordination preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams and clients.
  • Ability to manage timelines, follow up on assignments, and lead peers/teams effectively.
  • Comfortable providing guidance and mentorship to student workers.
  • Familiarity with project management and social media platforms (e.g., Monday.com, Trello, Instagram, LinkedIn, Hootsuite, YouTube, TikTok, etc.) is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of photography, social media, and Adobe Creative Cloud is required.
  • Professional, dependable, and able to represent the department and university with integrity.
  • Willingness to work evenings or weekends based on project needs.
  • Commitment to upholding the mission and values of Grand Canyon University.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, project management, social media, leadership, business, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior involvement in campus programs, student affairs, or creative/media-related work preferred.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience (including student leadership or peer mentoring) is a plus.

  • The majority of work is performed in an office setting where sitting is frequent.
  • Occasionally work is performed beyond the office setting and depends on the demands of the incumbent’s irregular schedule with regard to activities and types of activities. 
  • Work occasionally involves the use of a computer, keyboard and mouse or mouse pad requiring the frequent use/movement of fingers, hands, wrists, shoulders, forearms and neck; some forward reaching may be involved.
  • Work also frequently involves the use of a computer monitor or display unit, requiring the use of the neck, and ability to use vision.
  • Work occasionally involves lifting, carrying or moving furniture and/or equipment, if the incumbent needs to assist in setting up venues.  This may involve pushing, pulling, tugging, grasping, bending, maneuvering furniture/equipment on dollies, and lifting up to 25-30 pounds.
  • Work frequently involves active listening and the ability to decode information via regular communications with students, parents, alumni, employees, and outside contacts via phone, in person, meetings and events through face-to-face communications, email/IM/text, face time, web conferencing or other available technology.
  • Work frequently involves the ability to communicate thoughts and ideas inside and outside contacts while attending events including meetings, conferences, activities, events, and training occurring in person or via phone or other electronic means such as video conferencing.
  • Work involves occasionally driving; incumbent must be physically capable of driving a vehicle safely and to transport other passengers safely to destinations.  Requires ability to see, including the use of peripheral and distance vision; ability to steer the vehicle; ability to move the head/neck, use arms, hands and feet.
  • Constantly involves mental acuity requiring planning and organizational skills, spatial recognition and placement skills, creativity, critical thinking skills and concentration/focus on the task.
