Organizational Overview:
Controllership organization within Finance COE responsible to monitor day-to-day accounting activities involved in Synchrony business. Controllership mostly covers General accounting, Client accounting, Reconciliations, Closing & Reporting, System maintenance, Governance related sub-processes. Every process contributes to quarterly & annual financial close process and ensure that we have accurate external reporting.
Role Summary:
This individual will be responsible for leading a team located in Hyderabad, India and performing activities within Controllership’s General Accounting team. This role will be responsible & will act as first point of contact as a reviewer of the immediate team members work and deliverables. These tasks will be in the areas of accounting for Secured & Unsecured debt, MSA entries, USD-CAD settlement & other related activities for Synchrony Financial (SYF).The team will also be involved in completing various accounting related tasks including various month end close activities and recording manual journal entries (MJE). This role will be responsible for understanding all the processes that the team owns and will be the detailed reviewer of the immediate teams work and deliverables. This role will also assist in various cross-functional and multi-stakeholder projects affecting the above-mentioned activities. In this role, you will gain accounting, quarter close management, and reporting Finance experiences, as well as influence in a matrix environment Leadership experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Monthly end close activities
Manage the Intercompany accounting processes and monthly tasks.
Act as a point of contact for Vision plus, FAS91 & Reserves & be a BCP for the process.
Prepare & review of various daily, monthly and quarterly accounting processes including manual journal entries to clear suspense items
Assist and review in monitoring close activities including checklist, validation reports, reconciliations, and other administrative items.
Review and approve manual journal entries prepared by team to ensure accuracy and compliance with MJE procedure
Reviewing of various reporting packs for secured & unsecured debt, Brokered CD’s reporting, CTA validation files etc.
Ensure team has performed all reconciliations and close tasks each period within deadlines.
To work on reporting deliverables during Quarter close & reporting it timely.
Reconciliations
Oversee team’s preparation of various reconciliations on a daily, monthly and quarterly basis
Take ownership of resolving the Reconciliation queries.
Responsible for escalating issues promptly to U.S. counterparts and other various teams within Synchrony (depending on issue).
In addition, for the above areas, drive process improvements and simplification opportunities in Controllership processes.
Required Skills/Knowledge-
CA/ICWAI/MBA with bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with Minimum of 4 years prior accounting/finance experience or in Lieu of a degree Minimum of 6 years prior accounting/finance experience
Oracle GL and Oracle Hyperion product suite.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Personal Computer proficiency (software: MS Office preferred)
Excellent organizational and follow-up skills
Excellent communication skills – both oral and written.
Ability to manage multiple & varied priorities
Desired Skills & Experience:
Advanced MS-Excel Skills.
Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience.
Controllership experience in a large organization or public accounting.
Experience in financial services industry.
Demonstrated team player with collaborative, facilitation and influencing skills.
Leadership skills and experience in managing a team including performing detail reviews of other team members work.
Demonstrated ability to create operational guidelines and metrics to facilitate strong process performance.
Experience working in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Strong analytical and data manipulation skills
Eligibility Criteria:
CA/ICWAI/MBA with bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with Minimum of 4 years prior accounting/finance experience or in Lieu of a degree Minimum of 6 years prior accounting/finance experience
Work Timings: 4PM -12PM IST
This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs)
