The Audience Optimization & Discover (AOD) team is responsible for growing and engaging search audiences across the New York Post’s digital platforms. We combine SEO strategy, emerging AI discovery, and on-page user experience improvements to help the company’s journalism reach the widest possible audience. The team works closely with editorial, product, development, and analytics teams to improve discoverability and drive readership.
We are seeking an Audience Optimization & Discovery Intern (40 hrs/week) to join us this summer! In this role, you’ll work closely with the Audience Optimization & Discovery team to help identify content opportunities across search and emerging discovery platforms. You’ll analyze audience trends, assist with headline and content optimization, and contribute ideas that help our journalism reach new readers. You’ll also gain hands-on experience using real newsroom data to support editorial strategy.
Note: This internship is scheduled to run from June 1, 2026 - August 7, 2026. Participants are expected to work full time hours and adhere to our on-site work schedule. Open to current juniors and seniors pursuing a BA, MA students, and recent graduates who completed their degree within the past year. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by March 15th.
What You’ll Do:
Research audience trends and search behavior to help identify content opportunities across Google and emerging discovery surfaces
Pitch timely and evergreen story ideas to editorial teams using data and platform insights
Collaborate with Audience Optimization & Discovery team members on initiatives that improve visibility, engagement, and recirculation
Assist with tracking performance across search, Google Discover, and other traffic sources
Support audits and optimization of headlines, article pages, and landing pages
Contribute to projects related to AI-driven discovery, audience growth, and editorial strategy
What We’re Looking For:
Understanding of SEO and how audiences discover content through search engines
Interest in digital publishing, audience development, and how people discover content online
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Ability to collaborate with editors and analysts in a fast-paced newsroom
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Working knowledge of tools such as Google Trends, Google Analytics, or Google Search Console is a plus
