Job Summary
The Associate Relationship Manger functions as part of a relationship team working alongside leadership and senior bankers providing banking solutions and strategic advice for both clients and prospects. Specifically, the objective of the Associate Relationship Manager is to provide support while learning and showing mastery over the various skills and responsibilities needed to serve as a relationship banker. Associate Relationship Managers deepen and expand their skills in: Credit, Relationship Management, Portfolio Management and Sales Management.

Essential Functions

  • Work closely with the relationship managers, and underwriters to identify and respond to client requirements as a member of the deal team, lead and/or participate in due diligence meetings for in-depth understanding of clients’ business, management teams and industry sector.
  • Work with relationship managers to create proposals and pitch materials for prospects and clients.
  • Review loan requests to determine and collect required items needed for loan approval and upload required financial information as part of the loan approval process.
  • Work with RMs and underwriters to prepare preflight materials (new Deal Proposal PDF and/or Excel Deal Proposal), focusing on accuracy of loan request details
  • Participate in commercial loan requests, including tasks such as, completing Return on Equity (ROE) analysis, collecting, and reviewing financial statement spreads.
  • Participates in credit processes and participate in resolving portfolio activities/issues ensuring sound asset quality, including underwriting, structuring and portfolio management activities;
  • Participate in the preparation of all Asset Quality Reports and new Risk Rating models to assure accurate risk assessment of assigned portfolio
  • Participate in Annual Portfolio data integrity reviews to ensure systems of record (e.g., Salesforce, nCino, CLS, LIQ) accurately reflect risk ratings, loan booking data and any other related borrower information.
  • Work with bank examiners and internal credit reviewers to validate credit quality and integrity of the credit process
  • Participate in a proactive approach to ongoing management of the portfolio to include collection of financial statements; ensuring loans/lines are renewed timely; changes in client structure or wherewithal are properly communicated to risk partners and internal risk findings are properly remediated and managed.
  • Participate in Know Your Customer activities such as RSQ, Beneficial Ownership and Fraud Prevention activities.
  • Review legal documentation to ensure that terms are appropriate and consistent with credit approval.
  • Ensure proper approvals for all required waivers, amendments, and extensions are completed and filed appropriately.
  • Work with support partners to perform system maintenance to ensure proper portfolio assignments
  • Participate in early identification and proactive management of deteriorating credits and other problem situations
  • Participate in managing client relationships in assigned portfolio serving as the main point of contact and owner of the relationships including handling any loan requests, documentation updates or other required portfolio management activities.
  • Develop a business development strategy through creating and maintaining a clear and holistic understanding of the client's or prospect's business/industry; analyzes data and relevant client business and industry
  • Develop a Provides and educates the client on Key's capabilities and knowledge in key product areas (cash management, derivatives, equipment finance, etc.)
  • Develop a prospecting effort, including identification, qualification and calling; develops active Center of Influence (COI) referral network
  • Improve functional/technical sales and credit expertise continuously and transfers this knowledge to team members; partners effectively with Credit Officers, as the first level sponsor for credit decisions
  • Develop proficiency in Sales Management tools such as SalesPro, Salesforce, Co-Pilot, RelPRO
  • Gain expertise in and promote the comprehensive range of KeyBank Support products and services, including Key Private Bank and Key at Work
  • Perform other duties as necessary to support the goals and objectives of the relationship teams.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, or related field (preferred)
  • OR equivalent experience (required)


Work Experience

  • 2+ years of commercial banking experience (e.g., credit structuring & analysis, sales functions, risk assessment, knowledge of commercial banking products, services & technology) accounting (required)
  • 2+ years working in Credit Structuring & Financial Analysis (required)
  • Ability to manage workflow and complex commercial banking deals (required)
  • Ability to manage stress and competing priorities (required)
  • 2+ years working in Commercial Middle Market Credit Structuring & Financial Analysis (preferred)
  • 2+ years Commercial Middle Market Underwriting and Financial Analysis (preferred)


Skills

  • Formal credit training strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Applicable systems may include – Key proprietary systems e.g. Salesforce, nCino, SharePoint,
  • Ability to meet timelines and perform multiple tasks
  • The ability to select the right activities to work on from a range of competing priorities and stands by decisions in the face of conflict or unexpected outcomes.
  • Demonstrates the ability to examine a specific problem and understand the perspective of stakeholders; uses fact-finding techniques to identify and document specific problems
  • Demonstrates experience in participating in productive collaborative processes that help solve business problems and meet business goals
  • Possesses the ability to adapt listening and facilitation style to others’ communication styles and uses various approaches appropriately and effectively
  • Participates in business tasks to get things done in own business unit and communicates key considerations for business decision-making processes
  • Implements or manages risk management for own business unit and documents key steps of the risk management process and associated procedures

Physical Demands

  • General Office - Prolonged sitting, ability to communicate face to face in person or on the phone with teammates and clients, frequent use of PC/laptop, occasional lifting/pushing/pulling of backpacks, computer bags up to 10 lbs.


Travel

  • Occasional travel to include overnight stay.


Driving Requirements

  • Ability to occasionally operate a motor vehicle with a valid driver's license.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $80,000.00 - $150,000.00 annually. Placement within the pay range may differ based upon various factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and geographic location. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for incentive compensation which may include production, commission, and/or discretionary incentives.
