Associate Manager - Openshift Sustaining Engineering

About the Job:

The Red Hat OpenShift Sustaining Engineering team is looking for an experienced Associate Manager to join us in Pune. In this role, you will be a part of a high functioning team and work in close collaboration with peers often in other geographies to help to create and support multiple versions of the Red Hat OpenShift Core Platform. The team will work to respond to product defects identified by the Support and ProdSec organizations and proactively as a bridge between the open source community and our enterprise software offering. You will be responsible for guiding the team as they become the primary group responsible for the ongoing maintenance of large portions of existing components and releases of Red Hat OpenShift.  

This role focuses on aligning team deliverables with organizational goals, mentoring engineers, and solving moderately complex challenges. Collaboration across functions and fostering an inclusive team culture are essential.

What you will do?

  • Work closely with multiple engineering teams around the world to build a local team with deep technical knowledge of the core parts of our Kubernetes distribution

  • Help peer managers understand the capabilities and capacity of your team and to jointly plan our ability to deliver future improvements

  • Work with cross-functional managers and teams across support, quality assurance, documentation, and other areas to create and deliver a high-quality product

  • Work to recruit new associates to the growing Red Hat OpenShift Sustaining Engineering team

  • Oversee the execution of objectives and guide resource allocation for project success

  • Manage team and individual performance through continuous feedback and coaching

  • Develop tactical work plans for technical objectives in collaboration with functional leads

  • Establish processes that enhance team productivity and alignment.

  • Build relationships with internal stakeholders to enhance product development impact

What you will bring?

  • Ability to lead and work with diverse and distributed software engineering teams from multiple countries and cultures

  • Ability to identify potential, and develop and motivate your team.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience working with customers or in customer situations

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The following will be considered a plus:

  • Experience with Linux, Python or Go

  • Strong background in Kubernetes, OpenShift or other cloud-native technologies

  • Familiar with test-based development and agile or scrum methodologies

  • Knowledge of the AI and machine learning landscape, including basic MLOps concepts

  • Familiarity with enterprise application development  

  • Understanding of, and ideally participation in, open source community software development or leadership
