Texas A&M University–Texarkana, through the Education Division, seeks a tenure-track faculty member in Reading to contribute to undergraduate and graduate educator preparation programs through teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will provide high-quality instruction in reading and literacy education, support teacher preparation and advanced certification pathways, and maintain an active program of scholarly inquiry aligned with the mission of the university.
The standard teaching load is 3/3, with expectations for peer-reviewed research, scholarly publication, and professional dissemination consistent with tenure and promotion guidelines. Teaching responsibilities will emphasize reading development, assessment, intervention, and evidence-based literacy instruction aligned with the Science of Teaching Reading (STR) and Texas reading standards, with the possibility of teaching related courses across the Education Division as program needs require.
The position includes collaboration with EC–12 partners, support for certification programs, and service to the department, university, and profession. The successful candidate will value collegiality, continuous improvement, and data-informed decision-making in teaching, research, and program development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in reading and literacy education
Prepare teacher candidates to implement evidence-based reading instruction aligned with the Science of Teaching Reading (STR) and Texas certification requirements
Design and deliver instruction using evidence-based literacy practices in face-to-face and online environments
Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, including those pursuing advanced certification
Maintain an active, productive research agenda leading to peer-reviewed publications
Present research at regional, national, or international professional conferences
Collaborate with EC–12 partners to support literacy instruction, assessment, and intervention initiatives
Contribute to program development, assessment, and accreditation efforts related to reading and literacy
Participate in service activities at the department, college, university, and professional levels
Pursue professional growth aligned with tenure and promotion expectations
Comply with university policies, accreditation standards, and educator preparation requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Minimum Qualifications for Assistant Rank
Hold an earned doctorate in Reading, Literacy Education, Curriculum & Instruction (with a literacy emphasis), or a closely related field
Be eligible to teach reading and literacy courses in an educator preparation program
Hold or be eligible to obtain Texas educator licensure
Integrate the Science of Teaching Reading (STR) and Texas reading standards into coursework aligned with Texas educator certification requirements
Demonstrate preparation or experience aligned with reading instruction, assessment, and intervention
Show potential for scholarly research and publication in reading or literacy education
Exhibit strong interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills
Engage effectively in teaching, research, and service responsibilities
Uphold professional ethics and confidentiality
Minimum Qualifications for Associate Rank
Meet all the minimum requirements listed as Assistant Professor Rank
A minimum of 5 years of service at the rank of Assistant Professor
Demonstrated record of effective teaching in reading or literacy courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
Established and sustained record of peer-reviewed publications in reading or literacy education appropriate for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor
Demonstrated ongoing and coherent research agenda with evidence of scholarly impact
Demonstrated record of meaningful service contributions at the department, college, university, and/or professional level
Preferred Qualifications
Hold or be eligible to obtain Texas Reading Specialist certification
Teach or have taught reading or literacy courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
Conduct research in reading, literacy, language development, or related areas
Publish or demonstrate potential to publish in peer-reviewed journals
Collaborate with EC–12 schools on literacy initiatives, professional development, or applied research
Utilize Canvas or a comparable learning management system
Secure or seek external funding to support literacy research or program development
