BASE LOCATION: CPS Plant Ahmedabad, Bavla

Job Summary:

Key roles and responsibilities of this position

  • As a team member of CPS India, Asst Manger - Environment and Safety will lead, implement and support the compliance of ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and KORE-ESLP Systems by coordinating between internal /external stakeholders. He/she will ensure full compliance of the operation with applicable  requirement. He/she will also track, measure and analyze plant KPI for safety and environment and ensure corrective and preventive actions are taken to meet BP target.

  • Asst manager - Safety and Environment will comply to central and local government regulatory requirements pertaining to safety and environment.

  • He/she will develop and implement various improvement initiatives, BBS and Zero Accident culture throughout the operation.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

Compliance to KORE–ESLP and OHSAS 18001 and ISO14001.                                          (50%)

  • Establish safety and environment management system through effective policy implementation, documentation, risk analysis and record keeping.

  • Monitor trends to decide annual KPI.

  • Lead and conduct Internal Audits periodically to enforce effectiveness of EMS/SMS system and implement effective corrective actions.

  • Meeting with Safety, Environment Committee regularly to update new requirements, follow up outstanding matters, best practices sharing and others.

  • Organize and conduct training programs, campaigns and provide updates to all supporting departments to upgrade their awareness and knowledge

  • Investigate, resolve and monitor accidents and near miss incidents at CPS plant

  • Ensure SMS compliance to PPE, Fire and others emergency control, First aid, Work permits, MSDS and non-negotiable requirements.

  • Ensure EMS compliance to carbon foot print, waste management, energy management and water usage and non-negotiable requirements.

  • Budget OPEX and CAPEX for safety, environment compliance and other improvement initiatives.

  • Data analysis and reporting

Regulatory Compliance of Safety and Environment requirements.                                    (30%)

  • Review of new laws and regulations, conduct gap analysis and comply with new requirements.

  • Monitoring and 100% compliance to existing regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure authentic data and on time submission of returns, reports and other required information.

  • Obtaining consents as required by regulatory authorities and ensure compliance to consent conditions as required by regulations.

  • Responsible for communications between Central and State pollution control board, Corporate, Division, Certification bodies related to systems.

  • Lead SVA/AWS certification

Develop initiatives to improve safety and environment compliance culture               (20%)

  • Lead and implement BBS and Zero Accident Culture in the operation.

  • Monitor trends of accident frequency and severity rates

  • Develop and implement permanent fix through improvement in documentation, processes and equipment.

  • Promote EMS/SMS Culture through competition, campaign, health programs, factory visit, environment day/safety week celebrations, etc.

  • Participate in EOSH DWT and provide required data on time.

  • Brainstorm ideas and collaborate with Corporate/other CPS plants/certification agencies on implementation of requirements effectively. Share best practices for implementation of SMS/EMS across the system.

Organization Impact/Influence:

This position works closely with senior management and plant’s associates in providing safety & environment recommendations to comply with requirements. Interactions include, but not limited to:

Internal interactions:

  • eKO team  (monthly basis) to report / update any safety & environment  initiatives / incidents in the plant – especially initiatives to achieve Zero Accident among all CPS associates.

  • Coordinate with department  heads for safety & environment  training.

External interactions:

  • CPS ESLP DWT

  • Local Government Authorities for safety and environment compliance (as required).

  • Third parties service providers

  • Professional bodies / consultants to improve safety & environment management system.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Fire Control

Guides contractors and plant associates to comply with authority requirements.

First Aids provisions and PPE management - Indirect report

Coordinate with all other department representatives to control and monitor First Aids.

He/She will  coordinate with the teams for safety & environment training and assignments. Responsible to guide visitors (contractors, vendors ….) to comply with safety and environment  compliance.

Related Job Requirements/Qualifications:

Working experience:

  • Minimum 6-8 years in manufacturing company in similar positions.

  • Should have knowledge of HIRA for safety and environment, document design and development, management and control.

  • Good knowledge of central and local Govt. regulatory requirement related to Environmental and Safety, auditing and problem solving skills.

  • Knowledge of BBS and performance measurement indicators for Environment and safety functions, Data analysis and reporting.

    Technical Knowledge:

Solid technical knowledge and skills in safety and environment. Knowledge on BBS , Risk assessment and MSDS. Regulatory knowledge pertaining to Safety and Environment requirements.

Analytical Ability:

Support in decision making by providing accurate data. about Trends, Internal auditing.

Interpersonal relationships:

Rate the synergy of working with others. Shows respect, trust and good team member.

Communication:

Good communication skills.

Planning and Organization:

Set priorities and organized.

Analysis Requirements:

Able to translate regulatory requirements into practical plan Able to benchmark with others operation and implement those best practices Trending of all safety performances:

  • Investigate  and control out of range trending

  • Recommend solution or improvements to fix or prevent the problems from happening again

Key member in appraising service providers performance

Educational Requirements:

  • Science or Electrical Engineering Graduate plus

  • Diploma or Degree in Industrial Safety or Environment Technology and/or a Certified Safety Officer.

Cultural Diversity:

Able to interact in English, Gujrati and Hindi, internally and externally:

Trains and leads CPS team to support and achieve Environment and safety initiatives.

External

  • Able to deal with regulatory authorities in environment and safety compliance

  • Able to work with other plants or professional bodies to improve safety & environment workplace.

Typically need to comply with requirements with freedom to decide on, how to accomplish assignments.

Working Conditions:

Normal manufacturing plant/office working conditions apply. Highly unlikely, it is possible that, this position is subject to hazards and risks of a food manufacturing plant such as noise, heat stress and hazardous chemical / ingredient.

Travel Requirements:

This position will be primarily based in Gujrat, India with minimum travelling (maximum 5% of work time under normal conditions). Trips include occasional visits or training at other concentrate plants, bottling operations and training centers.
