Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Conducts and/or supervise sensitive and intricate investigations of criminal activity, significant employee misconduct, and potential threats against the campus. Subjects of investigation may include employees, students, patients, visitors, and unaffiliated outsiders. Customer organizations may include local and federal law enforcement and other WashU departments and programs.
Manages and operates Protective Services' closed-circuit television (CCTV) video surveillance system to maintain safety and security on campus and collects evidence of criminal activity and administrative wrongdoing. Recognizes and addresses locations requiring CCTV coverage. Identifies system limitations and faults and collaborates with Protective Services' CCTV vendor for repairs and equipment upgrades. Keeps abreast of new video surveillance technologies for potential application on the School of Medicine Campus.
Administers Protective Services' report writing, record management, and criminal intelligence systems, ensuring timely, accurate, complete and professional formal written communications throughout the organization. Authors and disseminates actionable criminal intelligence products both internally and externally.
"Owns" Clery Act data collection, reporting and overall compliance on the WashU Medicine Campus, to include researching and interpreting policy updates and requirements, training and directing subordinates on their relevant assigned responsibilities, collecting and applying crime statistics, writing original text for the annual campus security report, collaborating with other WashU personnel, including the office of the Executive Vice Chancellor, to ensure comprehensive program compliance.
Partners with other OFMD subunits, customer departments and programs, and vendors/contractors during capital and renovation projects through the planning, design, and installation phases to select functional and effective security equipment and other physical security measures. Requires reviews of plans/blueprints, identification of equipment locations, selection of equipment, and serves as security system "project manager."
Represents Protective Services in meetings, at functions, and via written communications to the entire campus community, to university partners including WashU PD and OGC, and to key outside stakeholders with the objectives of positively affecting area crime trends and the department's and university's overall reputations for quality, integrity, and professionalism.
