The Opportunity 


Reporting to the American Gulf Region Director, the Area Manager, Operations applies their knowledge around safety, field operations, project management and technical processes to ensure, in accordance with all TC Energy’s (TC) standards, policies, processes, procedures and practices, the continuous operation, maintenance, and improvement of their assigned area. Within their specified area, establishes and assures compliance with operation and maintenance policies, practices and procedures and supports the planning, administration, and control of capital, operating, and other budgets for their assigned area.

What you’ll do

  • Champion safety excellence including recognizing and stopping unsafe work, recognizing, and reporting safety hazards, demonstrating compliance with safety policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Make decisions that align with the company’s core values, policies, and business objectives.

  • Supervise employees, ensuring work assignments are completed, and expectations are being met.

  • Effectively perform leadership activities necessary for the effective performance of a competent, proactive, and engaged staff

  • Lead, develop, mentor, coach, and support employees in the organization.

  • Set clear expectations and hold team accountable to meeting results; Cultivate a high performing organization.

  • Develop and foster an environment which actively enables and encourages employee innovation, continuous improvement, and commitment to operational excellence.

  • Manage an inclusive and diverse work atmosphere of promoting open discussion, engagement, and feedback, as well as communicate effectively.

  • Complete self-audit on a regular basis on processes such as JSA, LOTO, Work Permits etc.

  • Communicate, implement, and advocate corporate messages and programs in the spirit of the organizational vision and values.  Exemplifies the TC Energy values:  Safety in Every Step, Active Learning, Personal Accountability and One Team

  • Provide active field leadership to ensure corporate policies, practices, standards, and procedures are followed with the additional focus of leveraging best practices and consistency across the region.

  • Represent the Company and foster critical partnerships both internally and externally.

  • May serve as the Region’s Emergency Operation Manager (REOC) and responsible for managing the REOC team in the event of an emergency, conducting monthly exercises (back-up)

  • Drives and empowers safety culture across operating areas.

  • Be a leader in Safety; Role model the Life Saving Rules (LSR) and adhere to the Life Saving Rules and all company procedures to ensure the safe operation of facilities, the protection of personnel, our environment, our customers, and the people of the communities in which we do business.

  • Maintains all levels of ICS training to act as the Incident Commander and manage the emergency response with a requirement to be on call and, to respond to emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Successful completion of an Associates, Bachelor's Degree preferred; or diploma in a technical based field of study (Engineering, Business Management, or equivalent); An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree

  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience, preferably in a management or leadership position; Energy industry experience, specifically in natural gas transmission/storage operations, is preferred

  • Ability to travel to work locations to meet operational needs

  • Approximately 40% travel

  • Demonstrated ability to influence, engage, and develop a team; prior team leadership or strong aptitude preferred

  • Demonstrated effective written & verbal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization; and knowing when and how to use appropriate platforms

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, MS Teams, etc.)

  • Must be a leader in safety and can manage work in a safe and environmentally responsible manner

  • Highly motivated with interpersonal skills to effectively work in a collaborative team environment that includes shared responsibilities, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others, support team and company objectives

  • Requires an aptitude for attention to detail, accuracy, precision, and logic

  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills with diverse work groups

  • Influence and motivate TC employees within and outside of the business unit, creating and sustaining critical partnerships

  • Ability to change and help others adapt to a changing environment

  • Able to manage varied tasks, adapt to changing tasks and identify appropriate prioritization for timely execution

  • Work independently and on teams

  • Apply business principles to identify, justify and implement solutions

  • Make sound business decisions based on risk / cost / benefits assessment, and economic and commercial drivers

This position requires candidates to:

  • Be available for extended work hours or workdays as required based on operational and business requirements

  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve frequent overnight stays away from home
