Role Summary

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice to undertake a Financial Services Professional Apprenticeship within Corporate Advice, a supportive and structured team surrounded by professional and likeminded colleagues that is part of UK Shareholder Services (“UKSS”). This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, while developing the skills necessary for a successful career in Shareholder Services. As the Apprentice develops during their course, they will become capable of performing complex and specialised activities, be fluent in the systems and processes of the UKSS area, and will understand the responsibilities of being a receiving agent in all corporate actions handled by the business, their aim will be to achieve training or supervisory responsibilities within their area of expertise.

Core Duties/Responsibilities

  • To develop an understanding of the structure of the Financial Services industry and in particular the role and purpose of UKSS as registrar and receiving agent within the scope of Equiniti clients undertaking corporate action activity through capital re-organisations, acquisitions, disposals, funds raising transaction via placings, rights issue and open offer, return of funds though buybacks, tender offers etc; and how this role relates to other functions within the wider EQ group.
  • To project plan from start to completion the underlying Corporate Action task in a confidential manner.
  • To develop close and trusted relationships with Issuers, advisors and brokers and keep regular communication/liaison with them
  • Follow a prescribed governance process to assist in providing a structured project plan which defines requirements to the Corporate Actions Operational team and any other relevant internal teams.
  • Designing and being able to explain the timeline of a corporate action, factoring any regulatory, legal and market practice timelines and internal operational processing constraints.
  • Gain understanding of the technical, investment and settlement characteristics of the overall  corporate action and how it impacts share registers and the associated regulated nominee structures and any applicable employee share plans.
  • Gain understanding on how an investment instrument or product is typically used within the industry and how it may meet specified client objectives.
  • Learn how to be logical to support and fit within the wider business and the sector.
  • Understands the types of risks that may arise through operational activities and how these risks can be mitigated.

  • To on board the skills to provide a high-quality service to clients, advisors and internal stakeholders, adhering to established timeframes, systems, and processes with the corporate action sphere. Pays close attention to accuracy, detail, and timeliness.
  • Capability to spot a gap or incorrect process provided to them and to give feedback and evidence in a constructive manner that corrects and fulfils the process going forward.
  • Capable of learning how to provide high quality written and verbal communication skills as appropriate for communicating with internal and external clients.  
  • Consistently supports colleagues and the wider business, collaborating to achieve results. Aware of their role within team, how their team fits within the business and how the team’s decisions impacts on others.  
  • Proactively plans and records their own development; seeks constructive feedback and incorporates within development plan; keeps up to date with changes in all areas of the role; shows commitment to the job and the industry.
  • Willing to accept changing priorities and work patterns when new jobs need to be done, or when requirements change.

Duration

The duration of the apprenticeship will typically be four years

A Level in Mathematics and English
