Your Opportunity

At Mission Australia, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live a healthy, safe and fulfilling life. Our Common Ground AOD Hub supports individuals experiencing challenges related to alcohol and other drugs through compassionate, evidence-based care.

As an AOD Counsellor, you will provide evidence-based psychosocial counselling and specialist AOD support to individuals accessing services through the Common Ground AOD Hub. You will work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to deliver holistic support that promotes recovery and rehabilitation.

Your work may include individual counselling, group facilitation, outreach support, and telehealth services, ensuring flexible and accessible support for consumers.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Deliver individual and group counselling sessions using evidence-based therapeutic approaches
  • Conduct assessment and use psychometric tools to support treatment planning
  • Provide AOD education tailored to clients’ needs
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and external stakeholders to provide holistic care
  • Participate in supervision, team meetings, network meetings, program events and service development activities
  • Maintain accurate case notes, assessments and counselling files and complete program reports and outcome measures for funding and evaluation purposes
  • Ensure services are delivered in safe, respectful and protected environments

Requirements for Success

  • Diploma or Degree in counselling with minimum 1 to 2 years of working experience
  • Extensive knowledge of AOD services, mental health and substance use treatments
  • Ability to respond effectively to complex needs and mental health crisis
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, person-centered practice
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship building skills
  • Passion for supporting individuals to achieve recovery, stability and improved wellbeing
  • Valid driver's license, First Aid and WWCC

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, referee checks, and WWCC.
