What You’ll Be Doing

The incumbent will support the distribution of cash, credit and mortgage products (“Products”) within the Financial Solutions Group (“FSG”) for CIBC Capital Markets, with a focus on cash credit products.  The role operates in a fast-paced trading floor environment as part of a dynamic, hardworking, production-focused sales team. The incumbent’s mandate is to provide exceptional service and support to FSG clients, with a focus on activities that will increase the distribution Products within the network. The individual must be a trusted partner, providing dedicated support for each district within their geographic coverage area.

We are open to hiring an Associate based on the candidate's level of experience (minimum 3 to 5 years).

The expected annualized base salary for this role is $95,000.

The base salary is determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, as well as geographic location and specific business needs. Our compensation philosophy supports ongoing growth and development, enabling progression within the salary range as team members advance in their roles.

In addition to base pay, compensation for this role includes participation in an annual discretionary incentive or bonus program.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Solutions - Work closely with marketers and traders to develop appropriate solutions and timely execution to FSG clients
  • Business development - Initiating and developing clients including outbound and follow up calls, value-add idea generation, client meetings/presentations and customized solutions providing trusted advice
  • Client relationships - Partner with equity market colleagues in marketing, developing ideas, pitching clients and deepening client relationships
  • Collaboration - Working with trading desks in various jurisdictions to work on ideas that fit the risk profile of book, communicate flow and themes from clients, understand the risk and economics behind each trade and liaising with other CIBC infrastructure groups (ISG, credit, treasury, tax, legal, client onboarding, etc) and resources, as appropriate, to deliver transactions
  • Service focused - Provide product information to our clients in a timely manner with exemplary service
  • Cross-selling - Cross-sell other products, depending on product availability and client mandates, at all times making sound judgment
  • Market knowledge - Monitor, track and analyze market activities, economic factors, on an ongoing basis throughout the day to be in a position to respond to client requests
  • Product expertise - On your own initiative, develop product knowledge through directed or self-directed study. Be prepared to cross train when the appropriate time arises, as suggested by management. Share any developed skills, knowledge, ideas with management and other members of FSG. Additionally, assist with external and internal presentations, as well as booking transactions
  • Process optimization - Have an understanding of cash/derivative operations and settlement, work closely with internal and external ops teams, help streamline our day to day operation process 

Who You Are

  • You have attained an Undergraduate University degree in Economics, Finance, Commerce, Accounting
  • You can demonstrate knowledge of current financial markets, and an understanding of current market transactions
  • You love to learn. You are able to very quickly acquire knowledge, to demonstrate competence and to add value to the transaction and client relationships
  • You can demonstrate efficient organizational skills to respond to shifting priorities on several simultaneous projects
  • You have excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills in order to develop, manage and leverage relationships with clients, internal and/or external business partners
  • You have significant presentation/interactive skills sufficient to clearly articulate complex conceptual information/ideas on issues involving extensive interpretation and opinion
  • You have proven ability to develop viable product ideas and to lead product development process from idea generation through to closing. Strong project management skills
  • You have highly developed communication skills, both oral and written, sufficient to convey complex factual and conceptual information on issues requiring detailed explanation and interpretation
