Advanced Scientist - Process Technology

Summary:

In this role, you will lead chemical process development and scale-up programs across a broad range of silicone and organic intermediates as well as finished products. You will drive Process Technology initiatives focused on advancing new products and processes from laboratory through pilot scale into full manufacturing, while developing cost-effective chemical processes, improving yields, and reducing raw material costs.

You will manage projects spanning early-stage research, scale-up activities, and ongoing support and troubleshooting of established manufacturing processes, taking independent ownership of projects where required. Collaboration will be key, as you will work closely with cross-functional teams including product development chemists, laboratory technicians, procurement, quality, and production engineering.

A strong commitment to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards is essential, as you will ensure compliance in both laboratory and production environments while actively driving continuous improvement. The role may also involve domestic and international travel (approximately 10%) to support scale-up activities and trials at internal and external sites.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Execute projects to develop economical and environmentally sound manufacturing processes for new and existing silicone and/or organic intermediates and finished products from laboratories to manufacturing scales. This includes but is not limited to laboratory development, pilot-scale testing, and production trials, as well as testing and validation of new raw material candidates.

  • Execute tasks independently, leading projects, making own decisions within the area of expertise and the project scope.

  • Hands-on laboratory, pilot plant, and manufacturing scale-up work in support of projects. Maintain safe operations with excellent housekeeping practices.

  • Support of manufacturing through key troubleshooting investigations, optimization and new process implementation. Identify opportunities for productivity and quality improvements.

  • Build strong relationships and create an interface among Global Technology, Process Technology, Continuous Improvement, Procurement and Operations teams to maximize efficient execution of projects.

  • Deliver cost analysis to support new product and business decisions. Provide SAP material master and workflow support.

  • Adherence to site Safety policies and procedures.

  • Prepare reports documenting work, operating procedures, patent disclosures for inventions, and business presentations.

  • Use of statistical-based tools to establish product and process capability.

Qualifications:

The following are required for the role

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, or M.S. with 3+ years research/work experience, or B.S. with 5+ years research/work experience.

  • Hands-on laboratory equipment setup and operation experience.

  • Research experience with demonstrated emphasis on laboratory safety. 

  • Strong team player. Sufficient knowledge to guide others in laboratory and pilot plant research, as well as plant operations.

  • Proven problem solving and project execution skills. Excellent organizational skills, with ability to handle diverse responsibilities.

  • Basic statistics and data analysis knowledge (Design of Experiments).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate in English with a minimum of B2 under the “The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages” and fluency in Italian

  • Able to work in a chemical laboratory and plant environment.

  • Able to travel domestic and international.

  • Proven history of creativity / ingenuity. Ability to think creatively and communicate ideas effectively in both research and manufacturing environment.
