The Accounts Receivable Clerk is responsible for managing assigned customer accounts to ensure timely collection of outstanding invoices and compliance with agreed payment terms. This role plays a critical part in maintaining cash flow by working closely with customers, consignees, and internal departments to resolve billing issues and secure required documentation such as proof of delivery (POD).

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of assigned customer accounts to ensure timely payment of freight invoices.
  • Proactively contact customers regarding outstanding balances and follow up on past-due accounts.
  • Communicate with consignees to obtain proof of delivery (POD) and other required documentation to support billing and collections.
  • Monitor accounts to ensure compliance with established payment terms and credit limits.
  • Research and resolve billing discrepancies in coordination with dispatch, operations, and customers.
  • Maintain accurate account records and collection notes within the accounting system.
  • Escalate delinquent accounts as needed in accordance with company policy.
  • Support month-end closing processes related to accounts receivable.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; some college coursework in accounting, finance, or business preferred.
  • Self-motivated and driven with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Prior experience in accounts receivable, collections, or transportation billing preferred.
