Salary Pay Range: $16.28 - $20.35 per hour

Basic Function and ResponsibilityTo perform a combination of clerical tasks concerned with the calculating, posting and processing of financial receipts or disbursements. 

  • Process accounting related transactions, assess and verify costs, receipt monies and prepare documents for receipt, or disbursement of funds, and perform data entry of transactions and data. 
  • Process mail and bond preparation. 
  • Perform filing, order and return files from storage, wait on counter and answer phone, prepare reports, and perform related duties.

Appointing Authority and Supervision Received: The court administrator is the appointing authority.  The account clerk receives direct supervision by the manager of the department.

Characteristic and Assigned Duties: (The following duties are representative of the position and do not include all duties which may be performed.)

  • Compile and sort documents, such as invoices, checks, or other documents, which substantiate court judgments or business transactions.
  • Verify and post details of transactions, such as funds received and disbursed, and which may involve assessing court costs, assignment of account and location codes, and setting up disbursements, or statements.
  • Total accounts and transactions, using calculator, or computer.
  • Compute and record charges, refunds, or similar items.
  • May prepare check requisitions or statements.
  • Prepare and issue receipts for monies received.
  • Open, review, and distribute mail.
  • Collect bonds and money from jail.
  • Perform photocopying, filing of various documents, and maintain records.
  • Perform data entry of related actions, and data.
  • May generate spreadsheets and prepare reports, which may require the use of specialized software.
  • Assist the public, by phone, and in person by providing information.
  • Wait on counter, and perform related work as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Some knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and techniques of general ledger accounting, applying GAP accounting rules, financial internal controls, and methods/techniques of month-end closing, reconciliations, and accounting software packages.

  • Minimum typing speed of 45 words per minute.
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations rapidly, and accurately.
  • Ability to operate standard office machines, including a computer and calculator.
  • Ability to operate specialized accounting software applications.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, utilize time management techniques and handle multiple tasks.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent plus one year of general office or clerical experience, inclusive of accounts payable experience.
