Summary of Job Duties:

The Access Coordinator I provides essential support for patient care activities under supervision. This role involves greeting and assisting patients, managing appointments, and ensuring accurate patient information in a professional and efficient manner. The position is integral to maintaining smooth patient care workflows and delivering exceptional service.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School, GED, or formal educational equivalent 
  • Knowledge in basic medical terminology preferred, medical terminology competent within three (3) months of hire 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with patients and staff.
  • Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) and scheduling systems.
  • Ability to manage and update patient information accurately.
  • Organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate records.


Additional Information:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet, greet, and assist patients and the public in person or via telephone.

  • Answer telephones and coordinate appointments in a call center environment.

  • Schedule, reschedule, coordinate, and cancel appointments using the hospital’s electronic medical record (EMR) system.

  • Create new patient charts and update patient information accurately.

  • Access EMR referrals and orders as needed.

  • Conduct insurance verification and benefits explanation by running eligibility checks.

  • Request outside records and perform pre-registration tasks.

  • Work assigned queues for scheduling, registration, and billing.

  • Address conflicts professionally using active listening and negotiation skills.

  • Maintain accurate records and utilize communication devices effectively.

  • Demonstrate service recovery skills and participate in staff training and meetings.

  • Complete required continuing education and maintain job skill competencies.
