Job Summary:

This position is responsible for providing high-quality, individualized academic support services to nursing students at Geisinger College of Health Sciences. The Academic Support Services Team Lead will apply principles of cognitive learning science to help students develop effective learning strategies, oversee a peer tutoring program, and lead group sessions designed to enhance academic success from pre-matriculation through graduation.

This position requires professionalism, collaboration, and a commitment to student success. The Academic Support Services Team Lead will uphold the integrity and reputation of the institution and adhere to all relevant policies and procedures.

Job Duties:

  • Provide individualized academic coaching to nursing students, focusing on cognitive learning science, metacognition, time management, and strategic study skills.
  • Design and deliver group workshops and learning strategy sessions tailored to the needs of nursing students at various stages of their academic journey.
  • Develop and implement pre-matriculation programming to support incoming nursing students in their transition to post-secondary education.
  • Design, launch, and lead a peer tutoring program for nursing students, including:
  • - Developing program structure, goals, and evaluation metrics.
  • - Recruiting, training, and supervising peer tutors.
  • - Coordinating tutorial sessions and managing logistics.
  • - Establishing systems for tracking participation and outcomes.
  • Oversee the tutorial payroll and manage the school of nursing tutor budget of the CLE
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of student contacts, referrals, and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify students in need of academic support and develop targeted interventions.
  • Create and maintain a database system to track student engagement and outcomes for continuous program improvement.
  • Assist with CLE programming, including orientation, graduation, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Attend Student Affairs staff meetings and contribute to accreditation reporting as needed.

Position Details:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND/OR TRAINING

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, nursing, psychology, or related field required.
  • Master’s degree in education, higher education administration, learning sciences, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience providing academic support services in higher education, preferably in a health sciences or nursing context.

WORK-RELATED KNOWLEDGE

  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport and provide assessment and intervention services to graduate students.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of learning theory, universal design, assistive technology, strategic study skills and effective time management planning required.  Ability to develop an effective working rapport with students that include strong interpersonal and assessment skills. Data base management skills
  • Strong computer skills to include data base management and blackboard.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree-Education (Required), Master's Degree-Related Field of Study (Preferred)

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years-Related work experience (Required)
