POSITION/ROLE OVERVIEW
The Mannes School of Music at The New School’s College of Performing Arts is seeking highly qualified Temporary Overhire Staff Pianists to join its roster of staff pianists. Reporting to the Performance and Ensemble Manager, the Overhire Staff Pianists are directly responsible for staff piano services throughout the Mannes School of Music, including performing in students’ lessons, masterclasses, juries, and more.
Formed in 2015, the College of Performing Arts draws together the Mannes School of Music, the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, and the School of Drama. College of Performing Arts students are actors, musicians, performers, writers, improvisers, creative technologists, entrepreneurs, composers, arts managers, and multidisciplinary artists. Our community collaborates with colleagues across The New School in a wide array of disciplines, from the visual arts and fashion design, to the social sciences, public policy, advocacy, and more.
This is an overhire position without regular or guaranteed weekly hours. Opportunities for work will be scheduled on an as-needed basis by the Mannes School of Music department. This position may be renewed pending institutional need and availability of funding.
CORE CAPABILITIES, PRIMARY DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Accompany all student performance opportunities, including lessons, masterclasses, classroom activities, annual concerto competition, juries, and more.
Exhibit professionalism in all interactions with students, faculty, staff, and audience members.
Respond to inquiries from students, faculty, and staff in a timely manner regarding private lessons, masterclasses, and/or other performance experiences.
Adhere to departmental guidelines regarding reporting hours, payroll deadlines, and other items.
Additional responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree and/or equivalent training in collaborative piano
Excellent collaborative piano skills and artistic capabilities
Ability to prepare music quickly on an as-needed basis
Noted recognition in the collaborative piano field
WORK MODE
This position is primarily in-person and is based on campus to support effective in-person collaboration and engagement.
Hybrid work arrangements may be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the nature of the role and operational needs. Any such arrangement must be discussed and approved in advance by the appropriate division lead or their designee.
SALARY RANGE
$25.00/hour
