Waymo’s software reliability engineers (SRE) are responsible for the stable operation of Waymo’s fully autonomous systems and supporting infrastructure. As an SRE, you combine software and systems engineering techniques to build and run large-scale, fault-tolerant, reliable systems. You focus on optimizing existing systems, building new infrastructure, eliminating manual, error-prone or time-consuming work through automation, and ensuring products that are fast, efficient, and effective. As a manager, you’ll be directly responsible for your team’s execution, output and growing their careers.

In this hybrid role you will report to the overall SRE lead

 

You will:

  • Ramp up and learn the unique technical landscape and business needs that Waymo requires
  • Manage the EMEA Waymo One SRE team -- 1:1s, setting OKRs and guiding work, and developing your team's careers
  • Become a Waymo production expert, participate effectively in the oncall rotation, and automate Waymo's systems to be more resilient, reliable, and scalable
  • Work with SREs, SWE partners and PMs to develop and set the technical direction and architectural guidelines for Waymo's software development
  • Plan the growth of SRE at Waymo, hire additional SREs as the team grows rapidly

 

You have:

  • Strong team management, leadership, and communication skills, with experience navigating a critical and horizontal space
  • 8+ years of industry experience in reliability engineering or production systems
  • 3+ years of experience as a manager
  • The ability to lead a technical engineering team and deliver impact while managing the team effectively
  • Been in an oncall rotation at some point in your career
  • A Bachelors of Science in a relevant field

 

We prefer:

  • Demonstrated ability as an individual contributor engineer
  • A demonstrated track record of aligning reliability engineering culture and goals with overall business level objectives and priorities
  • A demonstrated ability to engage deeply on technical issues the company and your team will face
  • A Bachelors of Computer Science (or similar)
