ABOUT THIS JOB

Position Specific Summary

The Water Communications Operator at the City of Tucson's Water Department is responsible for providing comprehensive communications support to field personnel. This role involves responding to and logging radio communications and requests from both field staff and the community. The Operator prioritizes calls and dispatches the appropriate staff to address emergency and routine service requests promptly.

Work is performed under the supervision of a Water Services Supervisor. This position does not supervise.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides communications support by responding to calls requesting assistance, reporting emergencies, and determining the necessary response.
  • Delivers customer service by answering phone lines, routing calls based on priority, educating customers on City policies, coordinating service calls, acting as a liaison, and attending required meetings.
  • Receives and transmits communications and dispatches personnel via city communication systems in response to emergency requests and the regular operation of Tucson Water.
  • Operates multiple computer systems efficiently.
  • Enters data into the computer, maintains communication records pertaining to all water operational activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: 6 months post-high school
• One (1) year of directly related experience
• Valid and unrestricted Class D Drivers license

Preferred Qualifications
• Data entry experience
• Ability to type at least 40 WPM
