Job Responsibilities 

 

Accountable for maximising RII RU’s portfolio value, ensuring sustainability of portfolio delivery in different time horizons, ensuring affordability and managing/mitigating risk and ensuring strong  

1. Maximising Portfolio Value and ensuring sustainability: 

- Portfolio Prioritisation and Translating Priorities into Action 

- Leads Portfolio Prioritisation preparation within the RU 

- Ensures value accretive decisions are made in DRB/PIB Forums through providing  

  • analytics on value creation potential and sensitivities of assets 
  • efficient project costing through benchmarks, collaborating with Functions to ensure optimal internal project costing, ensuring benchmark comparator costs 
  • Clearly laying out value creation risks and mitigation strategies  

- Following-up on inflections for all assets, and facilitating development of clear strategic and financial roadmaps. Providing regular foresight driven input to senior leadership:  

  • Key Asset Tracker 
  • Quarterly performance reviews 
  • Key inflection & resource allocation roadmap  

- Key member of development of Business Development deal business cases for assets within RII scope

2. Ensuring affordability and risk management/mitigation 

- Collaborates strongly with Central Finance and SRM to ensure efficient resourcing and dynamic and immediate resource re-allocation to growth drivers 

- Collaborates strongly with Commercial Finance to understand clearly the asset potential and drivers of value/risks 

- Collaborates within the RU and with R&D Functions to understand the key operational risks and opportunities and works with RU Leadership to mitigate risks and capitalise on opportunities 

3. Ensures the team operates at the forefront on embedding emerging AI and Tech to maximise portfolio value, ensure sustainability, ensure affordability and manage/mitigate risk by embedding AI into governance preparations to support optimal decision making.

Ensures that the new TDS organisation is effectively delivering against its objectives for all three RUs (RII, Oncology, Vx), particularly ensuring that GSK is leveraging China innovation ecosystem to accelerate development 

As a leader, takes accountability for driving portfolio value through influencing decisions, enabling translation of strategic decisions into actions, leading in an agile way through uncertainty and ambiguity.  

 

Required skills and experience 

- Proven track record of impact in maximising value of a portfolio in R&D, and experience in capital allocation decisions to drive portfolio value growth 

- Deep experience as a Finance Leader in driving profitable growth in a commercial setting, experience in overseeing successful launch of innovative medicines and competitive positioning, managing market access challenges 

- Experience in assessment of Business Development deals 

- Deep track record of partnering with senior leadership and with R&D and Commercial, Supply Chain to address complex business challenges in cross-functional settings, driving results 

- Proven people leadership capability with a history of building and leading high‑performing global teams, developing people to their highest potential in delivering impact throughout the organisation  

- Strong ability to:  

  • translate complexity into clear, decision‑ready insight  
  • lead with impact during ambiguity and non-linearity 
  • leverage AI for improving portfolio analytics and decision-making outcomes
