Role Summary

The Vice President of Enterprise Platform Strategy and Activation is responsible for defining, building, and scaling enterprise platforms, tools, and capabilities that accelerate product delivery and engineering effectiveness. This executive ensures teams have the right platforms, patterns, automation, AI and shared services to innovate quickly. The role leads the multi-year strategy and operating model for the company’s foundational platforms spanning cloud, application, integration, engineering experience, and platform observability.

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in Hartford, CT 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define the long-term strategic roadmap for enterprise platforms, with a focus on emerging technologies. Spearhead our shift toward AI-first principles, integrating agentic patterns, model lifecycles, and human-in-the-loop guardrails into the fabric of our platforms.
  • Own the vision, lifecycle, and roadmap for core platforms, including cloud, engineering productivity, integration and ingestion platforms, API ecosystems, and automation capabilities.
  • Implement best-in-class platform engineering practices designed to drastically reduce technical debt, improve agentic automation, resulting in improved velocity.
  • Partner deeply with CIOs and engineering teams to understand their unique needs, ensuring high adoption rates of platform capabilities by solving real business problems.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architecture functions to ensure all designed platforms are scalable, secure, highly interoperable, and aligned with broader business goals.
  • Establish and monitor clear KPIs and maturity metrics to track platform consumption, performance, and business value delivered.
  • Prioritize platform investments and portfolio via value-based roadmaps, balancing modernization, innovation, and regulatory obligations.
  • Drive AI-first principles into platforms (agentic patterns, model lifecycle, guardrails, human-in-the-loop, safety & compliance).

Qualifications

Required:

  • Executive Experience: 20+ years of distinguished experience in enterprise technology leadership, with at least 10+ years dedicated to platform strategy or product management within large, complex, and regulated organizations.
  • Proven Transformation: Demonstrated success in leading enterprise-scale platform initiatives. You have a deep understanding of Cloud, Integration/API strategies, Ingestion, Data, AI, and Observability.
  • Outcome-Oriented: A proven track record of translating complex technical strategies into measurable business outcomes and achieving widespread organizational adoption.

Preferred:

  • Experience in insurance/financial services or similarly regulated industries.
  • Background in cloud/data/software engineering, enterprise architecture.
  • BS in Computer Science/Engineering, or equivalent.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$222,480 - $333,720
