Serves as a strategic financial business partner to the Chief Financial Officer and other key executives to help make sound business decisions.
Ensures the organization has best in class accounting processes and systems to achieve organizational current and future goals, while mitigating financial and operational risk.
Aligns accounting operations with organizational goals, providing insights into financial performance, cost control, and process improvements.
Develops and implements accounting and financial policies, procedures, processes, and systems.
Supervises and develops a team of accounting professionals and is responsible for overseeing and/or assign duties through daily work activities or projects.
Monitors employees’ performance to ensure their development and productivity within a safety environment.
Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including audited financial statements.
Establishes, monitors, and maintains internal controls over financial reporting.
Prepares presentations and provide information for cost reports to analyze the financial position of the business while providing recommendations to improve performance.
Creates accounting strategies to maximize profits.
Ensures all financial data adheres to current tax laws and regulations.
Drives meaningful accounting process transformation and automation to increase efficiency, timeliness, and accuracy.
Engages proactively with external stakeholders to foster collaboration and ensure the integrity of LUMA Energy’s financial records.
Ensures company’s financial statements are correct, complete, and in compliance with all relevant laws.
Supports with audits, reconciliations, and tax filings processes.
Provides strategic guidance and leadership to support long-term success.
Stays up to date with evolving accounting regulations, technology, and industry best practices to ensure compliance.
Performs major storm restoration work and associated drills as assigned or needed.
Follows all company policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Job Description:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
Experience:
8-10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, including several years in leadership positions.
Proven track record in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, including managing month-end and year-end close, financial reporting, audits, tax filings, and budgeting processes.
Expertise in regulatory compliance, internal controls, and risk management strategies to ensure the organization adheres to all financial, tax, and legal requirements.
Experience in managing accounting functions within large or complex organizations is highly preferred. Government accounting experience dealing with Federal funding sources or the ability to quickly understand these are preferred.
Competencies (Skills):
Proficient in accounting principles (GAAP), financial reporting, tax regulations, and audit procedures.
Knowledge of financial systems and accounting software.
Ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative and results-driven environment.
Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively across departments and with senior executives.
Problem-solving and financial decision-making abilities.
Strong analytical skills, with a meticulous attention to detail in financial reporting and the ability to identify trends, discrepancies, and areas for financial optimization.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders including senior management.
Adaptable to organizational growth and changing market conditions.
