Who we are looking for:

The Volunteer Services Business Analyst and Operations Intern will gain a comprehensive understanding of volunteer operations across the organization while identifying and documenting opportunities for AI-driven process improvements. By leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools like Google Gemini and Notebook LM, you will modernize internal staff resources and update existing organizational materials to enhance operational efficiency. Additionally, you will utilize data research and reporting to analyze volunteer engagement, tracking membership trends to develop high-impact communication plans that drive recruitment and long-term retention.

Internship activities include:

  • Gain an understanding of volunteer services, operational processes and work, and individual departments to facilitate volunteer operations
  • Utilize AI to update existing materials and resources
  • Identify and document the potential for AI to improve volunteer operations across the organization
  • Utilize AI to update and modernize ASCO’s internal resources for staff across the organization
  • Research and analyze volunteer applicant engagement and develop resources on getting involved with the organization
  • Develop reports to track volunteers expiring memberships and develop communication plans to recruit and reinstate non-member volunteers

Required qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate BA/BS degree program, or graduate program, or recently graduated from a 4-year degree program. Candidates must be at least a junior or entering their junior year of college at the start of the internship.
  • Experience or coursework conducting analysis and working with data
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite and proficiency in Excel
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with flexibility to adapt to changing needs
  • Solid organizational and time management skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service skills and professionalism
  • Willingness to enhance skills
  • Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence tools including Google Gemini & Notebook LM is a plus

Duration: 10 weeks during the summer – June 8, 2026 to August 14, 2026. This internship is 37.5 hours per week.  

Compensation: This summer internship position is paid at a rate of $20/hour for actual hours worked. Additionally, ASCO will provide parking or a metro subsidy.

Location: This internship is based in Alexandria, VA and will require working onsite the majority of the time with some offsite work flexibility. Candidates should reside in the D.C. metro area or be able to relocate at their own expense. If you are not able to work at ASCO Headquarters, please do not apply.
