In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:
Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
Federal Work Study student may apply.
In good disciplinary standing.
Must be located in the U.S.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching assistants will prepare syllabi, classroom materials, and take attendance for their classes. Under the guidance of a supervising faculty member, they will teach technical concepts, select and teach repertoire, coach styles, and administer and give feedback on in-class performances. This job is on campus, primarily in 8TF.
Students in this position must be currently enrolled in either of the Conservatory’s Graduate Vocal pedagogy degree programs: the MFA in Musical Theater Vocal Pedagogy or MM Vocal Pedagogy.
Skills and Knowledge:
Experience in classroom teaching is a plus; experience teaching voice is a plus. Students in this position must have good interpersonal skills, work well with a range of levels of interest and skill, be able to strengthen the confidence of students in the class.
Skills Learned:
Through this work students will gain the skills required to work with a supervising teacher; to be responsive to the needs of individual students as well as to a group. They will learn strategies for dealing with a range of learning styles and levels of interest. They will learn organizational skills in terms of structuring class meetings as well as in presenting content over time.
