The Visual and Merchandise Presentation Specialist drives the execution company-wide visual and merchandising strategies, focusing on maximizing profitability and ensuring operational excellence across the store fleet. This role executes and validates the technical documentation for all visual strategies, planograms, and fixture rollouts, ensuring the deliverables directly support strategic goals like maximizing space productivity, driving sales, optimizing inventory, and improving store labor efficiency.

The Specialist maintains visual consistency throughout the store, with a concentrated focus on high-impact zones, including seasonal categories, drive aisles, and end caps. Day-to-day, the Specialist collaborates seamlessly with key internal stakeholders, including Merchandising, Marketing, and Store Operations, to integrate Fixtures, Signing, and Marketing elements into all directives. This ensures the resulting merchandise direction is not only visually compelling for the customer but also functional and efficient for store teams to implement and maintain.

This position is expected to translate strategic vision into innovative and compelling visual concepts, applying a deep understanding of color theory, composition, and spatial arrangement to create aesthetically superior and strategically effective retail displays.

Major Activities

Visual & Merchandise Presentation Specialist

  • Aid in the creation and maintenance of visual directives for all store formats, overseeing new and existing product merchandising and presentation direction.
  • Document display details, fixture assembly, and marketing information accurately.
  • Validate the planogram's maximum capacity based on product and display measurements.
  • Recommend strategic modifications to nonconforming planograms, ensuring all layouts align with the overall strategic mission and visual presentation guidelines
  • Implement the visual elements of the planogram in the Model Store, making sure all details and directions are complete, functional, and efficient for store setup.
  • Utilize the visual standards in planogram creation to strategically deploy the brand vision. The primary goal is to establish benchmarks for presentation that both elevate the store’s aesthetic and rigorously optimize space utilization across the retail footprint.
  • Facilitate and direct departmental flow, adjacencies, and product display standards. Ensure the seamless, effective distribution of space planning data across all support center teams.
  • Validate the accuracy and completeness of all visual planogram documentation. Based on this review, recommend strategic modifications to any nonconforming visual elements to ensure alignment with the overarching mission, space allocation, and visual presentation guidelines.
  • Aid in the simultaneous execution of multiple visual guides, prioritizing timely delivery while elevating the visual merchandising strategy.  This ensures all product placements not only meet operational deadlines but also maximizes customer visual engagement for premium in-store experience.
  • Coordinate with the Merchandise Presentation Specialist to ensure Visual Guides are handed off in accordance with the governance timelines.
  • Coordinates with the Senior and Merchant partners ahead of planogram resets to pre-plan the placement and implementation of visual elements and product presentation.

Documentation

  • Document display details, fixture assembly, and product movements accurately.
  • Facilitates speed to market by working with merchants and cross-functional teams to make real-time visual adjustments, driving sales growth and improving overall assortment performance.

Visual Integrity within Planograms

  • Audits the hard copy of the visual direction to verify that all information is accurate, complete, and fully compliant with Michaels standards.
  • Execute the planogram in the Model Store to ensure all details and directions are complete and functional for the stores to set efficiently.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Associate degree or equivalent retail experience
  • Associate degree preferred in Business - may waive with extensive retail experience and supervisory level
  • JDA Space Planning Certification ideal

Minimum Type of Experience Required

  • Preferred JDA experience
  • Knowledge of planograms and/or set management in a retail organization
  • 2-4 years preferred

  • Project management, organizational, analytical, problem-solving skills & detail oriented
  • Creative aptitude to originate and execute innovative, compelling visual concepts for retail displays, leveraging a deep understanding of the product's value proposition to maximize its showcase and appeal.
  • Capability to translate business objectives into effective visual merchandising strategies.
