Job Description
The role will primarily involve tax support for M&A transactions and tax compliance work across Singapore/ Korea/ Japan (South Asia) . The role also involves providing various tax support functions to the operations in the above referred countries. Key responsibilities
Lead tax structuring, tax M&A and diligence efforts for Brookfield Property Group’s investments/ opportunities across Singapore, Korea and Japan. The candidate will also be responsible for and lead tax related corporate restructuring, cash repatriation
Responsible for tax underwriting in financial model, legal document review from a tax perspective
Good understanding of local tax rules, incentive schemes, BEPS Pillar 2, VAT/ Goods and service Tax, transfer tax rules across Singapore/ Korea/ Japan
Oversee the operation of South Asia international tax function for the property group including compliance, financial reporting, audit
Manage the development and execution of the tax strategy, planning initiatives and tax risk management
Proactively communicate and recommend tax strategies and solutions to senior management.
Monitor applicable transfer pricing policies and ensure adequate documentation
Coordinate internal reporting and provide tax support for operational matters (e.g., cash management and repatriation) across internal functions in South Asia (Accounting, Legal, Treasury, Finance, Compliance, Corporate Secretarial & Business Operations)
Liaise with Brookfield’s tax team located globally on reporting and compliance matters
Monitor changes in tax laws that may impact Brookfield’s tax positions, including tax accounting implications
Stay abreast of all new tax legislation affecting the South Asia region and communicate with the internal leadership team.
Manage external tax advisors/ outsourcing arrangements for tax compliance
Coordinate with BAM on foreign affiliate tax matters to ensure consistency in tax positions, tax risk management and administrative dealings
Ensure Brookfield’s tax risk management policy and other policies are adhered to
Manage inquiries and audits by tax authorities
Develop good working relationships with team members and foster a culture of operational excellence
Maintain and expand technical tax knowledge through professional development activities.
Assist and/or work on tax planning and other ad-hoc projects, as required, from time to time; and other relevant work assigned by the supervisor.
Your profile
Solid experience in M&A transactions, strong technical knowledge of local tax rules including corporate reorganisations, cross border tax issues, BEPS
Understanding of and experience with Fund industry
Experience in or an understanding in stamp duty and GST as relevant to real estate sector would be an added advantage.
Able to think broadly. Considers commercial and other non-tax objectives when working on projects
Adds value to the broader business and transactions in ways that are not directly related to tax
Experience with tax return computations and tax provision reporting
Experience managing and executing large complex tax assignments
Ability to work cross-functions, multi-task and work in a very fast-paced and team-oriented environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
Excellent project management skills and applies a pragmatic and efficient approach to handling complex assignments
Solid computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office applications
Position requires an individual with a minimum of 10-15 years of tax experience (with a focus of South Asia tax – Singapore, Korea, Japan)
Big 4 accounting/tax firm experience preferably
