Vice President of Quality

The Vice President (VP) of Quality will serve as a strategic leader within the Montrose Consulting Division, responsible for shaping, executing, and continuously improving the Division’s quality vision, systems, and standards across all service lines. This leader will champion operational excellence, risk management, and client confidence by ensuring that every engagement meets the highest levels of technical rigor, regulatory compliance, and service quality.

The VP of Quality will lead a cross-functional team of quality, audit, and technical assurance professionals, working in close partnership with Division and Service Line leaders to drive consistency, accountability, and continuous improvement across a $400M+ consulting organization.

This role is a key member of the Consulting Division Leadership Team, reporting to the Senior Vice President for Finance.

ACTIVITIES/TASKS/SCOPE

Quality Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive quality and assurance strategy for the Consulting Division, ensuring alignment with Montrose’s enterprise standards and regulatory expectations.

  • Serve as the principal champion for quality, fostering a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement across all teams.

  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, influencing decisions related to risk, technical rigor, and client service standards.

Operational Excellence & Standardization

  • Design, standardize, and continuously enhance quality management systems (QMS), processes, and tools across the Division.

  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for quality, safety, audit results, and compliance metrics.

  • Partner with service line leaders to ensure consistent project execution, documentation, and corrective action practices.

Governance & Risk Management

  • Lead internal and external quality audits, client reviews, and technical assurance programs.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, certifications, and accreditation requirements (e.g., ISO, NELAP, AIHA).

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks that could impact client delivery, data integrity, or corporate reputation.

People & Culture

  • Develop and mentor quality and assurance leaders across the Division.

  • Promote a learning environment through coaching, feedback loops, and post-project reviews.

  • Collaborate across functions to infuse quality principles into onboarding, training, and leadership development.

Integration & Future-State Design

  • Collaborate with peers on the Consulting Division Leadership Team to align quality systems with broader business and integration initiatives under Project Fusion.

  • In 2026, actively contribute to the evaluation, design, and implementation of an optimized organizational structure for 2027 and beyond, including the flexibility to transition into an evolved leadership role as part of that design.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & CREDENTIALS
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline required; advanced degree preferred.

  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in environmental consulting, quality management, or technical assurance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated success in designing and leading quality management systems across multi-disciplinary, geographically dispersed teams.

  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, accreditation processes, and risk management in the environmental and scientific consulting industry.

  • Proven ability to lead through influence, build trust, and collaborate across functions.

  • Exceptional communication, strategic thinking, and change leadership skills.
