MUFG Securities is seeking a Vice President / Director, Desk Analyst to join their Hong Kong team. What you'll do:

As a Vice President / Director, Desk Analyst based in Hong Kong, you will immerse yourself in the day-to-day activities of developing innovative trade ideas across multiple sectors. Your responsibilities will include compiling insightful commentary for clients, expanding key investor relationships, and contributing fundamental analysis during risk meetings. You will monitor bond indices and rating agency recommendations to inform strategic decisions, participate in primary deal launches by offering pricing guidance and risk analysis, and analyse traders’ risk positions to provide recommendations that optimise desk performance. Working closely with traders, you will help position their books advantageously while tracking market movers to build out ratings and index watch lists. Supporting Sales teams through client expansion efforts and assisting Credit Traders in achieving revenue targets will also be central to your role. Your ability to share market intelligence with Sales, Trading, and Syndicate teams will ensure US primary issuance is supported effectively. Success in this position requires a blend of technical expertise, interpersonal skills, and a collaborative approach that drives both individual achievement and collective progress.

  • Develop trade ideas across all sectors of the desk, generating profit and loss while marketing these ideas effectively to clients throughout Asia ex-Japan and Japan.

  • Compile daily and weekly commentary as well as new issue commentary for clients, providing insightful analysis across all sectors.

  • Build and expand relationships with key investor accounts, strengthening the firm’s network within the Asia region.

  • Contribute fundamental analysis during weekly risk meetings, offering valuable perspectives on trader positions.

  • Monitor bond indices and rating agency recommendations closely to inform trading strategies and client advice.

  • Participate in primary deal launches by providing pricing guidance and conducting thorough risk analysis.

  • Analyse traders’ risk positions regularly, producing actionable recommendations for the Desk Head to optimise outcomes.

  • Work collaboratively with traders to position their books strategically, avoiding unwanted exposures while capitalising on idiosyncratic and macroeconomic movements.

  • Track top movers in the market, building out ratings and index watch lists to support business development initiatives.

  • Support Sales teams in expanding client relationships through visits and calls, while also assisting Credit Traders in achieving revenue targets by providing market colour.

What you bring:

Your extensive background as a Vice President / Director, Desk Analyst equips you with the proven experience necessary for this role. You bring over ten years of credit bond trading expertise from reputable sell-side institutions, coupled with significant exposure to US Investment Grade Credit within Asian markets. Your established relationships with key investors across Asia allow you to connect seamlessly with stakeholders while leveraging your analytical abilities to monitor indices and rating agency recommendations. You have demonstrated sensitivity when compiling client commentary that addresses their unique requirements. Your contributions during risk meetings reflect a communal spirit that enhances team decision-making processes. Participating in primary deal launches has honed your skills in pricing guidance and risk analysis. You thrive when collaborating with traders on book positioning strategies that avoid unwanted exposures while capitalising on market movements.   • Over ten years of proven experience in credit bond trading at a sell-side institution, demonstrating dependability and deep industry knowledge.

  • Extensive exposure to US Investment Grade Credit within Asia markets, showcasing your understanding of regional nuances.

  • Strong relationships with key investors across the Asia region that enable you to connect effectively with stakeholders.

  • Exceptional analytical skills for monitoring bond indices, rating agency recommendations, and market movers.

  • Ability to compile detailed commentary for clients that reflects sensitivity to their needs and market conditions.

  • Experience contributing fundamental analysis during risk meetings that supports communal decision-making processes.
