About the role:

In your role as Vice President, you will act as a senior ‘credit lead’ within the Front Office Credit Management function of the GCIB-RUIT team in Oceania.  Note that although the preferred hire is at the VP level per job description below, we will also be considering less experienced applicants with directly relevant skills, experience and background at the Associate level.

The role is expected to display substantial maturity, experience and deal assessment abilities within the Portfolio team at all times, and to have strong and respectful relationships with the various risk functions.  Additional tasks will include project and credit process work however the core role is to manage credit risk for GCIB Oceania within the RUIT stream.

This role is crucial to the ongoing management and leadership within the RUIT stream; you will work closely with market leading RMs and product partners as your customers avail of MUFG products & services.

The broader Credit Management team plays an important role in achieving the Bank’s risk & return targets through conducting annual credit reviews and credit monitoring in accordance with the Bank’s internal procedures.   This role plays an integral part of this function through the successful completion of a range of day to day tasks, including: the management of RUIT customer credit & portfolio related requests, periodic review of customer credit and risk profiles, supporting the Relationship Managers and Portfolio Leads to manage credit proposals for new transactions, (incorporating deal structuring, preparing credit submissions, & historical and forward looking financial and industry analysis), supporting the preparation of client presentations and customer account plans, all whilst managing compliance with internal processes and policies and other ad hoc support to the relationship managers.

What you’ll be doing:

This role will lead and manage Credit Management aspects of the RUIT function from either Sydney or Melbourne, including:

  • Lead the execution of market leading transactions, including leading key aspects of due diligence and credit and underwriting approval processes
  • Support the on-boarding/origination of new  clients as part of our local, regional and global growth plans (i.e. with or without leverage).  This may include exposure to our PF business for the same customer base
  • Support the Portfolio team in managing limit allocation, credit risk vs returns and collating data for portfolio reporting, review and strategy
  • Develop and foster effective working relationships with other internal teams
  • Prepare and deliver client presentations, and develop client relationships through deal execution and pitching
  • Review and negotiate legal documentation including commitments papers and credit agreements
  • Ensure adequate internal controls are in place to comply with all Bank rules, policies and procedures and relevant regulatory prudential standards and requirements for Australia and New Zealand

What we are looking for:

  • 10+ years’ experience in structured debt role at Commercial Bank, Investment Bank or Fund
    • We will also consider candidates from chartered accounting firms, advisory houses, investment management or from a treasury team in general corporates
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, economics, or a related field
  • Solid mathematical knowledge, Excel spreadsheet skills, research & analytical skills
  • Broad Australian industry, business and economic understanding
  • Be able to engage in independent research & analysis of customers and markets and apply critical thinking and a high level of attention to detail
  • Strong financial analysis acumen and ability to assess large sets of data, make expert judgment, and identify key risks
  • The ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally
  • Sound platform of knowledge in each of the following
    • credit writing
    • financial analysis and modelling
    • legal documentation and debt structuring
  • Self-starter with drive, initiative and enthusiasm
  • Team player with the ability to work independently and prioritise various work
  • Previous experience in a leadership role providing guidance and mentorship to a developing team
