The Vice President and Director of Complex and Commercial Litigation is responsible for managing complex and commercial litigation and claims on a worldwide basis, overseeing the Company’s responses to government and regulatory investigations and proceedings, and advising senior management with respect to litigation and regulatory risk.    

  

Responsibilities: 

  

  • Manages the defense of Labcorp’s commercial and regulatory litigation. 
  • Oversees employment litigation and administrative proceedings. 
  • Advises senior management in areas of potential litigation exposure and regulatory enforcement risk. 
  • Provides proactive litigation management and coordination of outside counsel.  Actively participates in matters from outset to conclusion.   
  • Develops cost effective case strategies and oversees case discovery.   
  • Manages a litigation budget and works to minimize outside counsel expense levels. 
  • Oversees the litigation and claims resolution process. 
  • Identifies and implements innovative litigation-management technology to reduce legal cost and risk.   
  • Collaborates with senior leadership and various business units regarding initiatives that pose potential legal and litigation risk.   
  • Coordinate responses to governmental investigations and proceedings. 
  • Supports policy development and training and education of employees relating to litigation and risk. 
  • Provides research, legal analysis, factual information, and guidance to Company management on legal questions or issues.   
  • Performs other duties as assigned.  

  

Education & Experience: 

  

  • Juris doctor from an ABA-accredited law school, and membership in good standing of North Carolina or other state bar is required. 
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years+ litigation experience in a corporate or law firm setting, and experience in complex litigation matters is required.   
  • Excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as negotiation and presentation skills.   
  • Ability to handle complex legal matters and oversee personnel and various administrative functions.   
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to work well in a team environment and interact effectively with internal and external business partners.   
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, and to work with and maintain confidential and sensitive information.     
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptive, with the ability to operate and be an effective leader in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to manage a large portfolio and variety of claims and projects. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.   

All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.  

Location:  This hybrid position offers a balanced schedule of three in-office days at our Durham, NC hub located at 10 Moore Street and 2 remote workdays per week, supporting both collaboration and flexibility
