The Canadian Repo business is part of Global Financing, which is responsible for all financing activities (external and internal) within BMO Global Markets. The desk has a dual mandate to ensure all Canadian Fixed Income trading activities are funded and to provide fixed income financing to Global Markets clients in lending and borrowing bonds against cash.

Joining the team based in Toronto, the candidate will be accountable for core responsibilities on the Canadian Repo Trading desk, as follows:

  • Develops a solid understanding of the fixed income financing market across clients, brokers and security lenders

  • Supports bank funding and client financing activities in Canadian fixed income including pricing/execution in repo products, managing collateral movements and optimization, and hedging front end interest rate risks

  • Provides competitively priced liquidity to corporate, institutional, and interbank clients; quotes hedging advice, and market information in support of the customer business and arbitrage opportunities

  • Focuses on regulatory and internal risk management metrics that impact how we manage our balance sheet footprint

  • Identifies opportunities for increased efficiency and improved service to internal and external clients and acts as a positive change agent to drive improved efficiency and effectiveness

  • Manages risk related to pricing and sales/trading of the book. Takes action to reduce exposure in developing and delivering client strategies

  • Considers risk, internal controls and compliance as part of day-to-day accountabilities and adheres to policies and procedures

  • Develops strong market knowledge to provide comprehensive service to clients, develop new solutions, and construct compelling recommendations

  • Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders

  • Uses analytical skills (probability, statistical inference, etc.) and applies appropriate technical concepts and completes/leads consistent and reliable technical and financial reports/analyses to support client deliverables

Qualifications:

  • 4-5 years direct role experience at a Vice President scope of accountability

  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting/Economics/Mathematics/ Statistics, CFA preferred

  • Prior examples that display a high performing individual interested in risk taking and high transactional activities in a fast paced environment

  • Current knowledge of financial markets with previous exposure to the financial markets and/or analysis gained through a combination of direct experiences, qualification and education will be required

The base salary for this specific role in Toronto is $160,000.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
