Vendor Fiber Delivery Network Engineer I

Fremont, CA Full time

1) Vendor Fiber Delivery (VFD)

  • Review the VFD handoff package from the network build/delivery team and confirm it is complete/consistent before proceeding.

  • Validate readiness artifacts (e.g., diagrams, CID/mapping consistency, rack assignments, test/FC info, LOAs where applicable) and document gaps clearly in workstream comments.

  • Create the EDP needed for FOC/FC testing handoff when the workflow calls for it.

  • Perform required “update DB” steps per SOP (location/records updates) and keep the workstream current with frequent progress notes (at least weekly if no movement).

2) Cross Connects (XC)

  • For AMER POP sites/huts: receive the signal from the VFD process to proceed with XC ordering; once approved by the FTE owner, complete the connection work and update records.

  • Execute XC workflow steps such as: design received/reviewed, demarc assignment, ordering, tracking vendor completion, and attaching completion evidence.

  • Complete GAUDI XC record creation/updates; if required data is missing, block with the appropriate reason code and document why (common when router/interface details aren’t available yet).

Typical Interfaces / Partners

  • FTE Backbone Optical engineers (QC/approval points and escalations)

  • COLO/fiber vendors (ordering, scheduling, completion notices)

  • Data center or site services teams (for DC-side coordination and splicing/landing activities when applicable)

Core Skills (Level 1)

  • Strong process adherence and documentation (workstream comments, evidence attachments, weekly updates).

  • Working knowledge of LOAs, demarcs, rack/panel/port concepts, and XC lifecycle.

  • Ability to identify inconsistencies in handoff packages and escalate early.
