Job Summary: This position is part of the Education Facilities, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), Department of the Interior (DOI). As a Facility Operations Specialist you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, improvement, and operation of the Bureau of Indian Education structures and facilities.

Major Duties:

  • As a Facility Operations Specialist, GS-1640-12, your typical work assignments will include the following under supervision: Develop and administer a nationwide operational plan for facilities. Assist facility and/or program managers in tracking Operations and Maintenance (O&M) budgets. Manage the project and status information systems for operations and maintenance functions. Perform onsite inspections and evaluations. Conduct annual review of federal contracting requirements. Review and analyze new space requests. Participate in the development of budget estimates. Participate in formula run reviews and correct problem areas. Participate in planning and monitoring special bureau wide initiatives, including health and safety code compliance, environment, etc.

Qualifications: Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. GS-12: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level that includes: building operations requirements and practices for improvement and repair practices and techniques sufficient to coordinate or plan facilities operations programs, projects; identify and propose solutions to correct problems or to lower costs; review and analyze new space requests and provide the documentation for those which comply with all guidelines and regulations, funding or inclusion in the new space listing; develop budget estimates and justifications for their request; plan and monitor special bureau wide initiatives, including health and safety code compliance; and conduct annual review of federal contracting requirements, project schedules, costs, and project scope to obtain the best product value.
