As we continue to grow our finance function within our EMEA Centre of Excellence we have a fantastic opportunity for a VAT Team Leader to join our team based in our Budapest site.  You will support the Global VAT compliance function, contributing to the support of Global Finance systems and processes, critical for the needs of Thermo Fisher Scientific. 

In addition, the VAT Team Leader will work with the VAT Accounting Manager to develop and deliver VAT training as required to the other teams within GBS, to facilitate the continuous growth and development of the VAT Team members with a view of achieving department performance objectives and career path goals and objectives for those team members.

What you will do:

  • Preparation & review of VAT Returns, Intrastat Reporting and EC Sales Lists within EMEA
  • Work on and support complex VAT returns and queries
  • Support compliance with EMEA VAT requirements, implementing/maintaining internal control checks and reconciliations during the reporting/filing process to mitigate risk
  • Support the day to day VAT activities across the EMEA region, applying VAT knowledge to situations and addresses complex VAT issues with Management
  • Be responsible for the VAT team pacing in line with KPMG 360 optimization tool
  • Conduct Performance management, coaching and resource optimization
  • Be involved in daily structured team meetings
  • Conduct targeted staff development
  • Drive and lead continuous improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to the success of the company by providing timely and accurate work products that meet and/or exceed expectations
  • Support other team members

Who we are looking for:

  • Experience in VAT compliance
  • Ability to interpret VAT rules across a variety of European countries
  • Part / Qualified Accountant desirable, but not essential
  • Must be proficient with MS Excel and competent in using in-house applications
  • Must be proficient in the use of reconciliation accounting software
  • Flexible and adaptable with a desire to grow within a fast-paced environment
  • Able to make a decisive commitment to Thermo Fisher Scientific 4i values
