As an Upstream Process Development Scientist within the V&B MSAT team at Sanofi 's Toronto site, you will primarily focus on developing and optimizing upstream processes for V&B vaccine production. Your expertise in microbial fermentation will be crucial in ensuring robust and scalable processes. While your main focus will be on upstream activities, you will also collaborate with downstream teams to ensure smooth process integration. This role requires both technical expertise and strong collaborative skills to drive innovation in vaccine manufacturing.

Main responsibilities:

  • Lead upstream process development activities, focusing on microbial fermentation and harvest operations

  • Design and optimize media compositions, feeding strategies, and bioreactor conditions to enhance yields and product quality

  • Execute experimental plans and apply statistical approaches for process understanding and optimization

  • Contribute to scale-up activities from laboratory to pilot and industrial scale (up to 1000L)

  • Provide indirect operational management of technicians and coordinate technical activities

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement digital solutions for process monitoring and data management

  • Contribute to technology transfer activities and support GMP manufacturing

About you

  • Education: Master's degree or Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Bioengineering, or related field

  • Experience: 2 years in upstream bioprocess development, with expertise in microbial fermentation processes

  • Technical skills: Strong knowledge of bioreactor operations, harvest techniques, and scale-up principles from laboratory to industrial scale

  • Technical skills: Ability to design and execute experimental plans using statistical approaches for process optimization

  • Digital skills: Experience with process digitalization tools and data management systems

  • Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to present complex technical information clearly

  • Languages: Fluency in English required

The salary range for this position is:

76,200.00 - 110,100.00

Final compensation will be determined based on demonstrated experience, skills, location, and other relevant factors. Employees may be eligible to participate in Company employee benefits programs, and additional benefits information can be found through the (CA)LINKOR (US) LINK.
