Position Overview:

As a User Researcher Associate at Mercury Marine, you will work in a creative and highly collaborative environment, observing how boaters interact with their boats and on-board control systems, and translating those observations into actionable insights that inform our product, design, and customer experience teams. You will help drive human-centered design initiatives that enhance our marine products and services.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct field and on-site research to observe boaters using Mercury Marine products (e.g., engines, controls, navigation systems) in real-world settings.

  • Gather qualitative insights on user behaviors, needs, and pain points.

  • Engage directly with customers and end users through interviews, surveys, and ethnographic studies.

  • Be comfortable initiating conversations to understand how and why people use our products and services.

  • Analyze and synthesize research findings to identify patterns and the “why” behind user behaviors.

  • Translate observations into clear, written insights (e.g., reports, personas, journey maps) that provide actionable recommendations for product managers, designers, and customer experience teams.

  • Work closely with Product Management, Design, and Customer Experience teams to ensure user research findings guide decision-making and innovation.

  • Communicate research outcomes through presentations and share-outs.

  • Travel to marinas, boat shows, and customer sites as needed to conduct in-person research.

Diversity of thought and experiences is fundamental when imagining the unimaginable. Certain skillsets/experiences are necessary; however, others can be developed along the way.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in UX Research, Human-Centered Design, Psychology, or a related field

  • 1 year of experience or prior internship experience

  • Ability to interpret qualitative data and uncover deep insights from user behavior.

  • Familiarity with user research methods (interviews, field studies, surveys, usability testing) and related tools for note-taking, analysis, and presentation.

The hiring range for this position is $54,300 - $85,700 annually. The actual base pay offered will vary based on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the specifics of the candidate’s qualifications and the business context.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
