Job Summary: This vacancy is for a GS-0801-13, General Engineer located in the United States Coast Guard, Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, MAJOR SYSTEMS AQUISITION PROGRAM CG-AIR-A1, in Washington, District of Columbia.

Major Duties:

  • You will serve as a General Engineer and be responsible for developing, replacing and/or upgrading sys­tems on surface assets, as well as for shore-based systems and aviation platforms. They will also be providing systems engineering development and technical evaluation of processes of various projects and contractor teams; providing support and guidance on system functions; engaging in activities necessary to ensure the reliability, maintainability, interoperability, the configuration integrity of system components; and contributing to the planning and administration of efforts to achieve the U.S. Coast Guard's targets. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Reviewing and evaluating the technical aspects of assigned projects to ensure that the systems/subsystems engineering processes are functioning properly and evolves the system from concept to product. Applying systems engineering and business principles to technical and contract management problems involved in the development and achievement of the program's system engineering objectives. Coordinating and reviewing design development and systems engineering elements and activities. Developing, analyzing, and reviewing designs, specifications, and independent cost estimates for a variety of complex systems and components.

Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal or private sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Specialized experience may include the following: Reviews system designs and specifications for compliance with requirements and recommends necessary revisions and improvements. Prepares formal requests for cyclic and out-of-cycle planning submissions from subordinate field sites and other subordinate units. Provides technical evaluation and monitoring of system engineering processes of various contractor teams in compliance with the Program Systems Engineering Life Cycle (SELC) Tailoring Plan (PSTP). Prepares engineering papers, reports, designs, and drawings to document studies and test results. NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.
